The Festival of Thinkers is a tradition that has been initiated by the Symbiosis Institutes. Known for its innovative academic training programs, the Festival of Thinkers was initiated as a supporting initiative to the ongoing programs of MBA in Symbiosis. At Symbiosis, the belief has always been in helping the students develop a proactive thought process that leads to the building of their managerial skills. But, how do you build this approach towards proactive thinking? This is a dilemma that a lot of us continue to face. Well, thinking is a process that can be inspired and never taught. In line with this insight, Symbiosis initiated the Festival of Thinkers wherein experts from diverse domains are invited to the B schools like SIIB and asked to share their insights with an audience comprising of students. This season the Festival of Thinkers was hosted at SIIB. The institutions is one of pioneering initiatives of the Symbiosis Group that houses participants of three diverse programs which are the MBA in international Business, the MBA in Agribusiness and the MBA in Energy and Environment. Given this scenario, the session that was a part of the Festival of Thinkers was extremely helpful to these soon to be managers. Not only did they learn about the insights from the industry, but there were also relevant concepts shared that inspired the students to think on the line of core managerial concepts. The speaker for this session of Festival of Thinkers was – Dr. Linus Von Castelmur, honourable Swiss ambassador. Other dignitaries present for the occasion were Dr. S.B. Majumdar, Dr.Vidya Yeravdekar, Dr.Rajani Gupte, Dr.Prakash Shah and several Swiss delegates. It covered multiple aspects which included relevant issued pertaining to the era of globalization. The causes of globalization are clear but its impact is gradually being felt. Dr. Linus Von Castelmur covered these aspects wherein he shared with students insights on weighing the pros and cons of the era of globalization. The students were highly inspired and enjoyed the session as they got an opportunity to interact with the Swiss dignitaries. The MBA in Pune is rarely able to provide such an in-depth analysis. But, the situation at SIIB is different. Here the students are encouraged to take up such challenges, learn from the industry and participate in sessions by experts. This broadens their thinking capability and gives them a chance to understand the industry better. Festival of Thinkers is replicated across all the Symbiosis institutes with every institute hosting the session alternatively and different speakers coming in to share their experiences with the students. In line with its goal of providing quality education to students, SIIB hosts several such sessions by experts. The core objective in such sessions is to encourage the students to think beyond the obvious and develop the much coveted managerial skill set. It is not a one day transformation. But SIIB pursues it consistently guiding the students through several such innovative initiatives and helping them develop the managerial skills that fit the present day industry demand. http://www.siib.ac.in
