News BADA Announces Plans Following the Winding up of the BFA(11/2/2011) At its packed Annual General Meeting this week, the BritishAudio-Visual Dealers Association announced it is repositioningitself over the next twelve months to become the only tradeassociation for the specialist hi-fi and home cinema industry,following the winding up of the BFA. BADA, which already has a thriving manufacturer and distributormembership, will work to strengthen its position within theindustry and fill the void left by the British Federation of Audio.It has already invited all former members of the BFA to apply formembership, and it is hoped that many of them will take it up. The Association has implemented many new initiatives during thepast year, including the launch of three critically acclaimedtraining courses, covering home cinema, networking and marketing.New member benefits have also been introduced, such as BADAfleet,which brings large company fleet car purchase discounts andmanagement to SMEs. A new brand identity was introduced at lastyear"s Cedia Home Technology Show, at the same time as thelaunch of the new consumer focused BADA website.
The Associationhas also begun to hold a series of regional events across thecountry. Simon Byles, BADA chairman, in his keynote address to the gatheredmembers and guests, outlined his vision for the year ahead."Whilst the closure of the BFA is undoubtedly a sad event forour industry, BADA will be using the next twelve months toreinforce its credentials and to ensure its offering is suitablytailored and appropriate for all sectors of the hi-fi and homecinema industry in the UK." He went on to say "We havecome a long way in the past few years, successfully casting offmany of the preconceptions about what BADA is, and havedemonstrated to the industry that we are serious about raising andmaintaining standards across the network of independent retailers.It is now time for us to move enthusiastically forwards to the nextstage of our development, by turning BADA into the industry"sassociation with representation for all parties." A new board of directors was voted in during the meeting, which sawFraser Robertson, of Focal JM Lab, take over one of the AssociateMember director positions. The 2011 board consists of: Simon Byles(Infidelity), Vernon Hamblin (Unilet Sound & Vision), GeoffMathews (Soundcraft HiFi), Chris Henry (Overture), George Bartlett(Bartletts Hi-Fi), Simon Jackson (Ceritech Audio), Geoff Coleman(Acoustica), Peter Thomas (PMC) and Fraser Robertson (Focal). Following the formal business of the meeting, the attendees heardpresentations from: GfK on the market performance, Clare Newsome(What Hi-Fi) on the recent CES, Barry Fox on 3DTV and the digitalradio switchover and Alan Ainslie (Naim Audio) on media streamingtechnology.
