Caring for Clarity Enhanced Diamonds If you too weighed the advantages of clarity enhanced diamonds and opted, as many others do, for buying one, you should know how to care for it. Although basic care for a clarity enhanced diamond may be similar to caring for non-treated diamonds there are considerations you should be aware of. In the following paragraphs we bring you useful information about caring for your clarity enhanced diamond. Use Ammonia Free Cleaning Agents Many jewelry cleaning products are ammonia based (some are even plain pure ammonia!). Such cleaning agents may damage the enhancements made to your diamond. It is therefore a good idea to find a jewelry cleanser that does not contain ammonia. Jewelry cleansers which are safe for pearls are also safe for clarity enhanced diamonds. Many times it is enough to use mild dish soap in order to rid your clarity enhanced diamond of any residues, leaving it sparkling clean just like when you first bought it. Use a soft fiber toothbrush when you clean your clarity enhanced diamond with the ammonia free cleaning agent as well as when using just plain dish soap and water. Routine Cleaning Routine cleaning of an engagement ring, or any other piece of jewelry in which a clarity enhanced diamond is set is simple but should be done with care. Dissolve half a teaspoon of dish soap in a glass of warm water and then soak the jewelry being cleaned in it for 10 - 20 minutes. Take the jewelry out of its "bath" and use a soft toothbrush to scrub away any dirt or greasy residue (such as from hand lotion). When scrub cleaning jewelry you should take care not to scratch the metal which is naturally much more prone to being scratched than the diamond itself (clarity enhanced or not). Finally, rinse the jewelry in a bowl of warm water and place it on a towel to dry. Take care to store jewelry in a way that avoids any damage, such as due to scraping with other pieces of jewelry. Make Sure Special Precautions are Taken With Repairs Clarity enhanced diamonds may be sensitive to some repair processes which involve the application of extreme heat from a jeweler's welding torch. For this reason it is essential that you advise your jeweler of the treatments your clarity enhanced diamond has undergone when handing it in for repair. It is a good idea to show your jeweler a detailed diamond certificate, gotten from well respected gemological institutes such as DGI. A DGI diamond certificate will include detailed description of all treatments done. Ultrasonic and steam cleaning are safe for clarity enhanced diamonds.
