Can it possibly be true that there are only seven wonders of the world? Humanity spans thousands of years and six continents, yet only seven wonders exist? Perhaps that is the truth to people looking for a cheap tourist gimmick: “I’ve seen all seven wonders of the world!” But that, to be frank, is really quite ridiculous. There are more than seven, more than seventy, more than seven hundred or seven thousand wonders of the world. We have a vast world, and a vast history. All of it deserves its due appreciation. What about Michigan in Midwestern United States? That humble little state is full of wonders, not least of all Mackinac Island. Any Michigander can tell you about Mackinac Island. It is a little island off of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula (the beauty of which could be considered a wonder in itself), only eight miles in circumference. Tourists from all over the country flock to Mackinac Island for its world-renowned fudge. There is only one way to get to the island: by ferry. And once you are there, you only have three options for transportation: walking, biking, or going be horse. There are no cars allowed on this little island, leaving the streets of the downtown area flooded with pedestrians. Biking around the island is something that every Michigander must do at least once in his lifetime. Taking a trip to Central America, it seems criminal to neglect Belize from the list of the world’s wonders. Belize is host to some of the most unique experiences a person could hope to have. Have you ever considered cave tubing and zip line in Belize? You should! Zip lining in Belize is a thrilling and stunning experience. It is for more than just the thrill. Belize has some of the most beautiful natural scenery in the world, and, quite honestly, zip lining is hands down the best way to see it. And once you’ve finished your Belize adventure of cave tubing and zip lining, don’t forget to embark on an ecological tour of the Mayan ruins. These are experiences you are not likely to forget, even after you have forgotten everything else in your life. Seven wonders? I find that unlikely. I have traveled the world, and I find more and more and more wonders everywhere I go, from the mountains of Afghanistan to the Death Valley.
