HA NOI - Viet Nam always attaches importance to maintaining,consolidating and developing ties with traditional friends,including Armenia in its diplomatic policy of independence,self-reliance, diversification and multilateralisation. President Truong Tan Sang made the statement at talks with ArmenianPresident Serzh Sargsyan in Ha Noi yesterday. Sang hailed President Sargsyan's visit as an important milestone instrengthening friendship and traditional cooperation between thetwo countries, especially at a time when Viet Nam and Armenia werepreparing activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary ofdiplomatic ties. He praised its renewal achievements, which haveraised the country's position and prestige in the region and theworld. The two sides agreed to further increase the exchanges ofdelegations at all levels, particularly the high-ranking, and boostcollaboration between the two countries' ministries anddepartments, towards laying a solid foundation for expandingbilateral economic, trade and investment ties, among others. They agreed to create a legal framework for economic and tradecooperation. An Inter-Governmental Committee for economic-trade andscience - technology cooperation should be established as early aspossible, they said. The leaders also stressed the need to resume cooperation ineducation and training, and increase cultural exchanges between thetwo peoples in the new period.
Sang thanked Armenia for supporting Viet Nam in running formembership of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2014- 16 tenure. He said he believed the two countries would continuesupporting and closely working with each other at multilateralforums. President Sang and his Armenia counterpart witnessed the signing ofagreements on cooperation in economics, trade andscience-technology, visa waiver for official and diplomaticpassport holders, and cooperation between the two foreignministries. Following the talks, the two leaders adopted a Joint Statement onthe outcomes of President Sargsyan's visit to Viet Nam, which saysthe two sides acknowledged each other's full market economy status.
The two sides will also negotiate the signing of agreements onplant and animal quarantine, and on mutual recognition of eachother's quality certification of products, culture, sports andcustoms to support bilateral trade in the coming time. On the same day, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met theArmenian President. Trong affirmed that Viet Nam always attached importance torelations with traditional friendly countries such as Armenia. Heexpressed his pleasure over the development of political relationsbetween the two countries in recent years and desired to developgood relations and bilateral co-operation in the near future forthe mutual benefit of the two countries. For his part, Sargsyan said Armenia considered Viet Nam a close andreliable partner in Southeast Asia and stressed the promotion ofmultifaceted co-operation with Viet Nam, especially in the fieldsof economics, trade, education and training.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has affirmed that the VietnameseGovernment would actively implement agreements reached duringArmenian President Serzh Sargsyan's visit to further develop thetwo countries' relations. At a meeting with President Sargsyan in Ha Noi yesterday, Dungproposed the two sides continue to complete legal foundations forbilateral cooperation to facilitate two-way trade, increase theexchange of delegations at all levels, and organise trade promotionactivities. He also suggested that both sides quickly set up bilateralcooperation mechanisms to effectively implement cooperation ineconomics, trade, science-technology, education and training, andtourism. Dung said he hoped the two countries would closely cooperate andassist each other at international forums, particularly the UN. For his part, President Sargsyan affirmed that Armenia wanted tofurther boost economic, trade and investment cooperation with VietNam, calling for the quick establishment of an Inter-GovernmentCommittee and increased information exchange between the twocountries' businesses.
He also said Armenia was willing to receive Vietnamese students tostudy in the country. Also yesterday, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung saidthe National Assembly of the two countries should strengthenhigh-level delegation visits for information and legislativeexperience exchange, and enhance co-operation in multilateralparliaments and international organisations. He added that the National Assembly of the two countries shouldactively co-operate in urging and supervising the Governments andministries to implement the signed agreements between the twocountries. He took the occasion to congratulate Armenia for the success of itsNational Assembly election last month.
President Sargsyan proposed to establish a Parliamentary FriendshipGroup to promote co-operation in education, trade and economy. At the meeting, the two sides agreed to establish anIntergovernmental Committee to further increase co-operativeprograms between the two countries.
