If there is one thing that Dustin Jorgenson is known for, it is that he loves being outdoors. When he really wants to get his blood pumping, he heads out to the mountains for some extreme rock climbing and has also swung 300 feet below Corona Arch. Here are his tips for rock climbers everywhere. - Safety is key. Dustin Jorgenson stresses that rock climbing is dangerous. There is no sugarcoating it, as there is a very real danger for injury or even death. However, for as dangerous as it is, it is also rewarding. That is why it is important to make sure that before you attempt the sport, you go out and get the proper training. Experienced professionals can show you how to climb properly at a local climbing gym. These are usually located indoors, and will give you a great start.
- Fear of heights. Dustin Jorgenson says that another thing that you should look out for is if you have a fear of heights. Many people have this fear, but if you are attempting to climb it would be best to try to conquer your fear. Fortunately, one surefire method of getting over your fears is by exposing yourself to it.
- Get in shape. Rock climbing is not easy. Dustin Jorgenson advises that you get in shape if you are planning to start this sport. Hopefully, if you have been training at a local rock climbing gym, your trainers have been showing you the ropes in regards to the kind of shape you will need to be in in order to successfully rock climb.
- Climbing in the wild. After you have completed your training, Dustin Jorgenson suggests that your first few climbs outdoors in the wild be an easy one. Work with the easy climbs first to acclimate yourself to the new level of difficulty before moving forward.
- Choosing the right time to climb. Dustin Jorgenson says that if you are climbing outdoors, you should pick a time when the weather is the most stable. You will already be under a great deal of physical stress, so make sure the weather is cooperative as much as possible.
- Use your feet. Dustin Jorgenson says that a common mistake for early or first time climbers is their tendency to use their hands most of the time. Your hands and arms will tire out quickly, so make sure that you use your feet too.
Dustin Jorgenson hopes you find these tips helpful, and that you enjoy your climbs. http://urban-climbing.com/10-tips-for-rock-climbing-beginners/ http://beta.active.com/articles/beginners-guide-to-rock-climbing
