Kitchen cabinets are considered to be essential to a well-organized kitchen; the more cabinets there are in your kitchen, the more likely you are to have the space to organize your supplies effectively. Kitchen cabinets are, however, easily dirtied, especially the cabinets nearest the stove and sink, and the cabinets that are used most often. Grease, soap scum, splattered food and grimy fingerprints are just a few examples of issues that affect kitchen cabinets, especially around the handles. With a few simple techniques, you can clean and polish your kitchen cabinets regularly so that they always look shiny and clean. Instructions as follows: Firstly, wash the cabinets with soapy water made from a mixture of about three or four drops of grease-fighting dish detergent and one gallon of warm water. Swish your rag or sponge in the soapy water to get it thoroughly wet and then wring it out so it is not dripping wet. Rub your cabinets in the direction of the grain to get them clean. Secondly, rinse the cabinets with a clean, wet rag or sponge using clean, plain water. Again, wipe in the direction of the grain. Rinse out the rag or sponge often and continue to wipe down the cabinets until all of the dirty soap scum is removed. Thirdly, wash the cabinets with an oil-based cleaning soap, such as Murphy's Oil Soap, to remove hard-to-clean dirt and grime, and to restore some of the cabinets' original shine. Buff the cabinets dry right away with a clean, dry rag when you are finished scrubbing. Fourthly, spray the cabinets with a wood furniture polish once a year if your cabinets' finishes dull over time and the oil soap does not do the trick. Rub the polish in with a rag in the direction of the grain. Fifthly, spray a heavy-duty or strong alkaline cleaner onto your cabinets. Let the cleaner sit for two minutes. Sixthly, scrub the cabinets gently with the abrasive side of a scrubbing sponge. Seventhly, rinse the cleaning residue off with a clean, wet rag or sponge using clean, plain water. Rinse the rag or sponge often in clean water and continue to wipe down the cabinets until all of the dirt and grime is wiped away. Eighthly, spot-clean your cabinets as necessary with all-purpose cleaner so grease, grime and dirt do not accumulate and become hard to remove. Repeat the cleaning once a year with a heavy-duty or strong alkaline cleaner, if desired. Tips & Warnings Do not use cleaners that contain acid or powdered cleaners to clean kitchen cabinets.
