Indians definitely have a healthy appetite for liquor and therefore it is no surprise that are plenty of home grown liquor brands available here. There are many brands of vodka on store shelves here because Indians love drinking this liquor, plain or with a mixer. In fact, changing tastes and increased exposure to international trends has ensured that Indians have also developed a taste for champagne and tequila and not just whisky, brandy or rum. Another reason for the popularity of vodka brands in India is that they are more affordable than the foreign ones. Local brands of vodka include Eristoff, White Mischief and Romanov. Both brands are reasonably good ones on account of their smoothness. However, people who are used to imported liquor tend to use these brands only as mixers. In fact, they do very well mixed with aerated beverages or orange juice. Since they are so affordable, these vodkas are a fixture at parties on account of consumption being very high. There are many imported options also such as Absolut, Smirnoff, Grey Goose and Belvedere; Indians are taking to these brands in increasing numbers. The popularity of tequila in India can be attributed to increasing exposure to Western culture. The concept of tequila shots is becoming very popular these days, both at parties at home and even at popular eateries. However, this drink is also necessary for making cocktails such as Margaritas which are also drunk very often here. The most popular brands consumed here are Patrón, Corralejo, Sauza Gold, Don Julio and Jose Cuervo. The last three brands are the most affordable ones but they are also very smooth and delicious. Some of the most popular champagne brands in India is Moët & Chandon and Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, both from Moët Hennessy. Other popular names include GH Mumm, Piper Heidsieck, Taittinger, Lanson and Pommery. There are quite a few brands of sparkling wine made in India (only wines from the Champagne region in France can be given this term). While they are very far from having international standards, they are quite good. Their biggest advantage is that they are quite affordable and therefore suitable for frequent consumption. Sula Brut, Sula Brut Rose and Sula Seco are some of the most popular sparkling wines made in India. The liquor business in India is definitely showing an upswing since the growing middle class has aspirations to try out new experiences. People are also becoming more discerning these days and are unwilling to settle for something that does not suit their tastes. Whether it is vodka, champagne or tequila, Indians experiment with different brands of liquor until they are able to pick out the one that they truly enjoy.
