NEW DELHI: Apple has announced upgrade to its MacBook Pro and MacBook Air range of notebook computers with the launch of new models. It also took the wraps off its next generation operating systems,including Mountain Lion and the popular mobile OS iOS 6, at its 23rd annual developers' conference WWDC (World WideDevelopers Conference). Earlier, Apple had been rumoured to be getting ready to shelveMacBook Air in some quarters. Instead, Apple made it airy andfaster. The new notebooks will sport a new heart too. The MacBook Air willcome with the latest Intel core processors, faster graphics and flash storage that is up totwice as fast as the previous generation. The presently available13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro have been updated with the latestIntel quad core Ivy Bridge processors and graphics from Nvidia. In a bid to take on the new crop of ultrabooks from rivals, the newMacBook Air will also be lighter on the wallet after Apple knockedabout $100 on the price tag across all models, except theentry-level model which will continue to be priced at $999. All models will come packed with much higher resolution, retina display and up to 60% faster graphics. The new MacBook Pro, for instance,will come with a pixel density of 2800 X 1800. Apple announced that its ninth generation OS X Mountain Lion will be available in July as a download from the Mac App Store. The company also unveiled iOS 6, introducing over 200new features to the popular mobile OS. It released a beta versionfor the developers. iOS 6 will be available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users as a free software update around middle of Septemberthis year. New iOS 6 features include an all-new Maps app with Apple-designedcartography (thus dumping Google Maps as widely reported earlier),turn-by-turn navigation and an amazing new Flyover view; new Sirifeatures, including support for more languages, easy access tosports scores, restaurant recommendations and movie listings. It also has Facebook integration for Contacts and Calendar, withthe ability to post directly from Notification Center, Siri andFacebook-enabled apps like Photos, Safari and Maps, and SharedPhoto Streams via iCloud. Interestingly, iPhone 4S' iconic voice assistant Siri will also be available for the newiPad, with added support for Spanish, Italian, Korean, Mandarin andCantonese. Still no Hindi! Apple senior vice president Phil Schiller took centrestage at WWDCto showcase the new notebooks, after recognition mentions for thedevelopers. The new 15-inch MacBook Pro has retina display, all flash storage(with this Apple moves away from the hard disks completely) and newquad core processor in a very thin and light frame. Measuring 0.71inches and weighing 4.46 pounds, the new MacBook Pro will competewith Macbook Air! Apple claimed MacBook Pro retina display is the "world's highestresolution notebook display" with over 5 million pixels, 3 millionmore than an HD television. At 220 pixels-per-inch, the retinadisplay's pixel density is so high that Apple claimed "the humaneye cannot distinguish individual pixels from a normal viewingdistance", thus promising the text and graphics will seem muchsharper. Featuring a aluminum unibody design and all-flash drives forstorage, the new MacBook Pro is the lightest MacBook Pro ever andnearly as thin as a MacBook Air. Flash storage that is up to fourtimes faster than traditional notebook hard drives, enables the newMacBook Pro to play four simultaneous streams of uncompressed 1080pHD video from internal storage. The flash storage architecture alsodelivers improved reliability, instant-on responsiveness and 30days of standby time. MacBook Pro with retina display features the latest Intel Core i7quad-core processors up to 2.7 GHz with Turbo Boost speeds up to3.7 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M discrete graphics, up to 16GB of faster 1600 MHzRAM and flash storage up to 768GB. Two Thunderbolt and two USB 3.0ports will allow Pro users to connect to multiple displays anddevices, and a new HDMI port for connectivity to HDTVs. New MacBook Pro also features a FaceTime HD camera, glassmulti-touch trackpad, full-size backlit keyboard, dual microphones,enhanced speakers, 3-stream 802.11n Wi-Fi and a thinner MagSafe 2power port. Also, OS X Lion, iPhoto, iMovie, iTunes and other Apple appsincluding Aperture and Final Cut Pro X have been updated to takefull advantage of the new MacBook Pro with retina display. Theupdated Aperture 3.3 also includes the new image adjustmentfeatures and now supports a unified photo library so photographerscan move seamlessly between iPhoto and Aperture. The new MacBook Pro will come with OS X Lion. Starting Tuesday, allMac buyers will also get a free copy of OS X Mountain Lion when itbecomes available. Mountain Lion will introduce new features,including the all new Messages app, Notification Center,system-wide Sharing, AirPlay Mirroring, Game Center and theenhanced security of Gatekeeper. With iCloud built into OS Xfoundation, Mountain Lion will make it easier for multiple Appledevice users to keep their content up to date across all devices. The 15-inch MacBook Pro will come with a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 IvyBridge processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.3 GHz, 8GB ofmemory and 256GB of flash storage starting at Rs 1,52,900,including tax. Another model will come with a 2.6 GHz processorwith Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.6 GHz, 8GB of memory and 512GB offlash storage starting at Rs 1,92,900 (all inclusive). "Today we've updated the entire MacBook line with fasterprocessors, graphics, memory, flash storage and USB 3connectivity," said Philip Schiller , Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. "We've madethe world's best portable family even better and we think users aregoing to love the performance advances in both the MacBook Air andMacBook Pro." Available in 11-inch and 13-inch designs, the new MacBook Airfeatures the latest Core i5 and Core i7 dual-core processors.
