Medications:- • GnRHA- (gonadotropin released hormone agonist) is administered through injection to reduce the secretion of estrogen and to stop menstrual period. When estrogen levels are dropped, fibroids begin to shrink. • Tranexamic acid tablets are administered to enhance blood clotting in uterus. It reduces bleeding. • Contraceptive pills to stop menstruation. • Anti-inflammatory drugs like mefanamic and ibuprofen to reduce amount of prostaglandins associated with heavy periods. • LNG-IUS (Levonorgestrel intrauterine system) is a plastic device inserted into uterus. It releases levonorgestrel (progestogen hormone which reduces growth of uterus lining. As a result, bleeding is also reduced. Surgery:- • Hysterectomy - removing the uterus only in severe cases where woman experiences substantial bleeding or when fibroids are very large. • Myomectomy – to remove fibroids attached to the wall of uterus.. • Endometrial ablation – removing the uterine lining. • UAE (Uterine Artery Embolization) to stop blood flow to the fibroid. • Magnetic-resonance-guided percutaneous laser ablation – shrinking fibroids by using laser. • Magnetic-resonance-guided focused ultrasound surgery –shrinking fibroids by using sound waves.
