Dental professional Christopher Braud has already earned himself a whole slew of academic and professional accolades, honors and decorations, but he does not let them go to his head. At just 26, Christopher Braud is already well on his way to a long and successful professional career in the field of dentistry, and when it comes to his professional development the sky is the limit. But dentistry is only part of the complex package that makes up Christopher Braud, and today he is here to talk about one of his other guiding passions: volunteering. Among Christopher Braud ‘s many volunteer efforts, he gives his time to food pantries, Habitat for Humanity, youth organizations around the community, and church charities. According to Christopher Braud, volunteering is one of the most important ways that a person can show their support for the community, help others less fortunate, and feel good about themselves in the process, too. Here are some simple tips for those who would like to volunteer, but may be having trouble getting started. - Find a cause. Volunteering is most successful when the volunteer is passionate about the cause they are involved in, says Christopher Braud. In fact, volunteering for something you do not care about may actually have a detrimental effect overall. Pick something that moves you, whether it be helping at-risk youth, building homes for the needy, or organizing donations at a food pantry, as Christopher Braud does. Other areas where volunteers are needed can include animal shelters and tutoring programs.
- Find an organization. Christopher Braud stresses that volunteering is most beneficial when it is through established channels. There are many great organizations out there doing a lot of good for just about any cause you can find to get involved in, says Christopher Braud. Once you decide what cause moves you, do a little research and you are sure to find an organization devoted to that cause. Get in contact with them, and chances are they will be eager to have your help.
- Don’t be shy. It can be intimidating to start a new volunteering obligation, according to Christopher Braud. You may be worried about how it will fit into your schedule, or how much difference you will actually be able to make. But Christopher Braud urges you to throw yourself into the new experience, make the most of the positives and the negatives, and at the end of the day he is certain you will not regret the experience.
