The word Bhubaneswar is derived from the word Tribhuvaneswar, which means God of 3 world and that is Shiva. It is the largest religious city in the eastern part of the country. Because of its enormous facilities it’s an ideal destination for tourists. Though this place is visited all year round but the best time to go through the tourist places around Bhubneswar is in winters.

  • The Lingaraja temple: It is known to be biggest temple in Bhubneswar. The center tower is around 180 feet high. According to an old believe, this temple belongs to Somavamsi dynasty and Ganga rulers made add on later on. The temple consists of other fifty shrines also. It is a pure specimen of one of the finest temples of India. The gate doors are made of sandalwood.
  • The Jagannath Temple The Puri is famous for Hindu temple which is dedicated to Jagannath and which is situated in Odisha. It is derived from the combination of the word Jagannathwhich literally means Lord of Universe. It is amongst one of the chaar dhaam yatra.
    • Baitala Deula :The temple’s prominent feature is its shape which is in the form of a flower. The roof is in semi circle shape which gives the view of Khakhara temples of south India. The Idol here is in the shape of a rectangle. The deity over here resides on jackals and owl’s corpse and wears a garland full of skulls. The temple consists of many other small sized deities in its vicinity.
    • Anant vasudeva temple: Its the only temple in Bhubaneswar Tourism which is Vaishnav. This temple was built for Krishna and consists of 3 chambers: one for Jagmohan second for Natamandira and third for Bhogamandapa.
    • Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves These two caves consists of both natural as well as artificial caves which are of great respect in terms of religion, architect and history. Two twin hills are the home of these caves named as Khandagiri & Udayagiri. These caves are rich in architect .
    • Rajarani Temple: This temple is believed to be a temple of love because of its symbol of love depicted in the form of carvings of couples in erotic postures. The temple is built in stand stone of red and yellow colour, which the local people call it as Raj- Rani. The sculptures present there depict various scenes of day to day routine work & also the different emotions as well. A nominal fees charged by the ASI is spend by them on its maintenance.
    • Dhauli: These are the hills situated around eight km from the city. It is presumed that the war of Kalinga was fought here. It is believed that Dhauli is King Ashoka’s weakness. There is a statue of Bhudha. The lion structure over there looks wonderful at the time of sunrise.

      While visiting all the above places in Bhubaneswar one should not forget the Chandana temple, Bharti Matha , Kedareswar temple which also constitute amongst the wonderful tourist places around Bhubaneshwar
