Brains? Guts? Violence? Survival? Flesh Eating? Blood? These are just some of the horrific things that you will see and experience if you watch AMC’s apocalyptic television cable drama, “The Walking Dead.” For the person who likes weekly blood curdling entertainment, this show will keep you very interested. However, judging by the 12.4 million viewers who tuned into the show’s third season finale, you are not the only person who likes ghastly adventures. Highly Rated The Walking Dead was first introduced to cable television audiences during 2010. The show is set to start its fourth season during fall 2013. This should not be a surprise since the show is always renewed each season, many times before the current season ends. It has been a huge success and has received the very coveted Golden Globe Award during its short existence. The Plot and Characters The Walking Dead has a very intense, but satisfying plot. The main character is named Rick. The pilot began with Rick waking up in the hospital and finding out that the world that he once knew is gone. The world is now post apocalyptic and most of the citizens have an infection that changed them into flesh eating zombies. Unfortunately, Rick spends the majority of his time fighting zombies and keeping a small band of survivors together and alive. Other than Rick, some of the more prominent survivors are Shane, Lori, Andrea, Dale, Glenn, Carol, Daryl, Merle, Maggie, Hershel, The Governor, Tyreese and Beth. As the seasons pass, Shane, Lori, Andrea, Dale and Merle are killed off through various twists and turns of the plot. Each episode shows how he and the survivors hide, fight and grow stronger each day in order to survive. They constantly move around from camp to camp in order to avoid being devoured by zombies. Something always happens that makes them move from their current safe haven. Usually, it is because they are discovered by the flesh eating undead. As can be expected, the survivors are continuously separated from one another because they have to run at a moment’s notice when zombies attack them. But, they always seem to find one another in later episodes. After all, there are only so many people left on earth that are not zombies, which makes it easier to find each other among the hordes of zombies. The Zombies Although they are un-dead and extremely gory looking, the zombies add a lot of excitement to the show. As time goes by, the survivors learn many different things about them. These little tidbits help them to survive. For instance, the zombies use their sense of smell to tell when humans are around. Also, they are attracted to sound, which means they flock in droves when they hear things such as loud gunshots. Thus, the characters must acknowledge these things in order to survive. The Sub Plots There are many different sub plots in The Walking Dead that will keep you glued to the television every week. The show has an apocalyptic storyline, but it still has sub plots that deal with infidelity, racism, jealousy, love and greed. Just think of it as a manly soap opera filled with plenty of blood, guts and gore. All in all, AMC has a hit on its hands. The Walking Dead has a huge following that does not seem to tire of zombies.
