The dismal current economic scenario has had an impact on institutions and individuals from all walks of life. These include churches and faith-based institutions who have reported a huge decline in their collection plates that are used for general operating, special missions and outreach programs. This has had a huge impact on the way these institutions operate. At the same time, these same institutions are experiencing an increased demand to provide assistance to individuals in need. This has come at a financially difficult time for these Churches. Hence, a number of churches or faith-based institutions are turning to grants as a source of revenue to continue operating and providing services. Churches and faith-based institutions are famous for helping the needy in a community. They fund and assist with programs for the homeless, provide shelter to the same, organize food banks and get involved in other community services. Some churches have volunteers to help, but sometimes the church budgets don't allow them the financial freedom to do as much as they would like. Hence, they can avail of Church Grants to fulfill their obligations. Such grants to faith-based groups will only be awarded if they have specific needs to address. In regards to Church Grants, they may vary from construction of a new church to setting up a community center for the homeless. There are various grants available and with a grant request you can get the funding for the current goals that your church has. The following steps….. Church Grant Application: The following steps illustrate the procedure on how to go about applying for a Church Grant. • Determine if your organization possesses a 501 (c) (3). A 501 (c) (3) is ruling by the IRS that declares an entity as a charitable organization. Without this determination from the IRS, you will not be eligible to receive assistance from a private foundation or from the government. If your organization does not possess a 501 (c) (3), you will need to consider applying for a 501 (c) (3) to obtain church grant funds. • You will also need to determine the greatest area of need or needs for your church or faith-based institution. For example, do you need funds to renovate your chapel or do you need funds to provide services to homeless individuals? • You will need to decide whether your greatest area of needs are for general operating, programming, or a capital or capital improvement project. You will then need to set out searching for government or government or private foundations that provide grants to your specific areas of need. You will need to be prepared to do a lot of research to find the best match for your institution and the areas in which you desire to receive funding. • When you have located several of the best potential funding sources, you will then need to sit down and start completing the grant applications.
