Twenty years ago, vacation goers usually had one choice when it came to where they wanted to stay while on vacation. A hotel. Unless, of course, you were lucky enough to have relatives in the town where you were traveling for vacation. Then, if you were friendly enough with that part of the family, you could sleep on the fold out couch for the week you were on vacation and try to sleep while Uncle Larry snored so loud he rattled the windows. Today, vacationers, especially those visiting Aruba, have the option of staying in a hotel or an apartment rental during their trip. Staying in a hotel is a traditional part of vacationing. Even in Aruba, you'll find most everything about the hotels the same as any other hotel you've every stayed in on a vacation. Most facilities provide one room, some times two if you stay in a more expensive location. Usually one king bed or two double beds are located in the main room, along with a television, dresser, table, a couple chairs, and now days, a mini fridge and the internet. In Aruba, most of the hotels have tile floors, as these are easier to clean sand from, instead of carpet. You're also more likely to find bright colors from the Caribbean instead of traditional drab maroons and evergreens usually found in hotels. Most Aruban hotels have bars and/or restaurants on-site. Some provide shuttle service to other bars and restaurants around the island. Despite the fact nearly every hotel is either located on or within walking distance of a beach, almost all hotels have pools, some times more than one. Every hotel has features unique to its location. However, one commonality and convenience you'll find in every hotel in Aruba and around the world is the ability to stay as many or as few nights as you wish. So make your vacation just as long as you want. The new trend in Aruba is apartment rentals. These apartments are specially furnished and managed so they can be rented out to vacationers at a five night minimum. But when you're staying somewhere that seems like home, five nights will feel like one. Most of the apartment rentals in Aruba have a living room and dining room combination area, a kitchen complete with a full-sized refrigerator, microwave, cabinets, and ample counter space to prepare food and drinks. In most locations, you have the option of either a one or two bedroom apartment, with either double beds or king beds. Depending on the number of bedrooms your apartment rental has, you may have one or two bathrooms which look like your bathrooms at home. Additional accommodations available at some of the rentals include discounts at local bars and restaurants, use of gazebos and other outer buildings on the properties, and cleaning services. Most rentals include complimentary wireless internet, hair dryers in the bathrooms, and coffee makers in the kitchens; all your creature comforts of home. Now that you've decided to vacation in Aruba, it's time to decide where you're going to stay. A hotel may offer more extracurricular activities sponsored by them, and the availability to make your trip as long or as short as you wish, but an apartment rental allows you more space and numerous comforts of home.
