When you're looking to make some big changes for a little money, it's important to keep things in the proper scale. With today's economy, 5,000 dollars doesn't seem like a very big budget for a remodeling project of any size. However, with a little bit of planning you'll be surprised just how much you can get done. Whether your goal is to completely redo your kitchen or to get a new custom bath in your West Palm Beach home, if you keep some fairly simple tips in mind, you should be able to come in well under your budget. Know When To Do It Yourself Some jobs are small and simple enough that you don't need to hire a contractor to perform them. That being said, it's also important to know when a given job is outside of your own skill set. For example, if you're hunting for a custom bath in West Palm Beach, the measuring, selection, and transport of said bath is something that practically anybody can do regardless of their construction experience. Actually installing it, however, is something you'll need a professional's help with. For other, less complicated, jobs, however, you can easily save yourself a lot of money by doing the heavy lifting yourself. If you're considering doing work yourself, and you're unsure if you can handle it, a quick look online can help you figure out if it's within your power. Simply do an internet search for a step by step guide on how to remove/replace the appliance or fixture in question and use that guide to figure out if you have the tools and skill to do the job. Pinching Pennies Once you've figured out whether to do the job on your own or call in outside help, it's time to figure out how to get the best possible deal. It's best to get this taken care of long before you plan to do your actual remodeling, so you can take advantage of the best deals possible. A quick look online through the sales ads of different home improvement and appliance stores can help you find a good deal for starters, of course, but don't be afraid to look in less obvious places. A quick scan through the classified ads online and in your paper can sometimes turn up surprisingly good deals when it comes to replacing out of date or broken appliances. If you are considering some good used appliances check out www.craigslist.com in your area. It’s definitely worth at least a cursory glance for those rare jewels that occur when someone else makes a mistake in their own renovation plans. On a similar note, check by any stores that mix their paint on site. Sometimes you can find a batch of paint that they mixed up for a customer that didn't come out perfectly. They're usually willing to sell this paint at a noticeable discount, and there's always the chance that it's exactly the color you're looking for. Not something to hang your hopes on, by any means, but a welcome boon when it happens. Bring It All Together Once you have everything you need, it's time to get to work. Remember that your time is worth money all on its own and plan accordingly. If your project is a big one and is going to take a long while, space it out and make arrangements to ensure it doesn't interfere with your life. If you're going to be doing a major overhaul of your kitchen, pick up some food that's quick and easy to make even with just a microwave. If you're redoing the bathroom, replace any plumbing fixtures first, if you don't have a spare bathroom, and make sure that you replace anything you disconnect on the same day. If you need advice on how to hire or qualify a contractor for a residential or commercial remodeling project, you are invited to call the DCR Group at 561-325-9800.
