Used by ancient civilizations – Although disputed, many experts claim that use of condoms have been shown on cave paintings that are about 12000 years old. 2. First STD prevention technique – Till the medieval era there weren’t any reliable STD tests and therefore perhaps people did not have any knowledge about it. Condoms came up as the first means for its prevention in the late 16th century when people came to know about such diseases. 3. Reusable condoms – the earlier time condoms in the 18th century period were reusable being made of sheep’s ‘intestina caeca’. These were prepared following a very intense time consuming recipe. 7. Available for prescriptions by men only – In the US there was a time period when condoms were only given to men on prescriptions to get themselves secured from STDs from prostitutes. They had Mickey Mouse as the pitchman for their product. 9. Flavored – Today there are more than a dozen varieties of Flavored Condoms available in the market. Some of the popular flavors are chocolates, grapes, strawberry, peach, etc. 10. Invisible condoms – Trials for these are being carried out. A number of products in this context have been developed but they are still awaiting the approval of the concerned authorities. 11. Used in war – In World War 2, condoms were used by soldiers to cover their barrel rifles. It protected it from the salt water when they swam in the sea to the shore. 12. Exposure to sunlight and harsh weathers – It weakens and damages its effectiveness.
