Cervical cancer is the third most common cancer in women, according to a worldwide statistics. Cancer of the cervix is cancer of the cells lining your cervix. Cervical cancer develops slowly over a number of years. At first, it develops abnormal changes, which are called precancerous, and then leads to cancer itself. These abnormal cells are called cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). These cells are not cancerous but if left untreated may develop into cancer. However, cell changes in the cervix can be detected at a very early stage and treatment can reduce the risk of cervical cancer developing. The symptoms of cervical cancer are not always obvious and it may not cause any symptoms at all until it has reached an advanced stage. Found below are some of the signs and symptoms of cervical cancer: - Unusual Bleeding: Abnormal vaginal bleeding between periods, after intercourse, or after menopause.

- Bleeding when something comes in contact with your cervix, such as during sex or when you put in a diaphragm.
- Pain during sex
- Longer periods that last longer than the normal days.
- Single Swollen leg
- Weight Loss
- Back pain
- Pelvic Pain
- Loss of Appetite
- Leg Pain
- Leaking of Urine or Feces from the Vagina

The treatment for cervical cancer depends on how far the cancer has spread. In case the cancer cells have worsen, surgery is always required to the patient. Surgery is performed to remove the cancer. The type of surgery needed depends on the location and extent of cervical cancer and whether you want to have children. A hysterectomy is a surgery to remove a woman's uterus or womb. The uterus is where a baby grows when a woman is pregnant. Your doctor may remove the whole uterus or just part of it; after surgery, you will no longer have menstrual periods and cannot become pregnant. However, there is a new minimally invasive surgery that uses robotic sytem during hysterectomy. For most patients, robotic-assisted hysterectomy can offer numerous benefits compared to traditional approached to vaginal, laparascopic or open abdominal hysterectomy, particularly when performing more complex surgery, such as radical hysterectomy or gynecological cancers. Although robotic-assisted hysterectomy is considered safe, every treatment has different set of benefits and risks. Before deciding to have a hysterectomy, ask your doctor or nurse what to expect after the procedure. Many women who have had a hysterectomy notice changes in their body and in how they feel about themselves. Talk with your doctor, nurse, family, and friends about these possible changes before you have surgery.
