Mycomune act as an immunosuppressant

Health
Tab : Mycomune 500
Composition: Each film coated tablet contains

mycophenolate mofetil IP 500mg.

This drug lowers body's immune system. The immune system helps in body fight infections. The immune system can also fight or "reject" a transplanted organ such as a liver or kidney. This is because the immune system treats the new organ as an invader. This is used to prevent body from rejecting a kidney, liver, or heart transplant.

MECHANISM OF ACTION : Mycophenolic acid acts by blocking purine synthesis of human lymphocytes through reversible inhibition of inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase. It also inhibits proliferation of both T- and B- lymphocytes.
Side effects: Diarrhoea, vomiting, GI haemorrhage and perforation; leucopenia; asthenia, pain, headache, anaemia, thrombocytopenia, renal tubular necrosis, haematuria, BP changes, hyperglycaemia, disturbances of electrolytes and blood lipids, peripheral oedema, dyspnoea, cough, acne, hepatitis. Angioedema, anaphylaxis, fatal pulmonary fibrosis.

Precautions: This medicine can cause harm to an unborn baby, especially if used during the first trimester of pregnancy. Do not use this medicine during pregnancy or if plan to become pregnant during treatment.

Do not receive a "live" vaccine while are being treated with mycophenolate mofetil. The live vaccine may not work as well during the treatment, and may not fully protect from disease.

Avoid using antacids. Antacids contain different medicines and some types can make it harder for body to absorb mycophenolate mofetil.

Avoid exposure to sunlight or artificial UV rays (sunlamps or tanning beds). The drug can increase the risk of skin cancer. Use a sunscreen (minimum SPF 30) and wear protective clothing.

Interaction : These drugs can interact with mycophenolate mofetil. .

cholestyramine

  • ciprofloxacin , amoxicillin and clavulanate, or any other type of antibiotic;
  • acyclovir , ganciclovir , or valacyclovir or
  • Other medicines that weaken the immune system, such as azathioprine , cyclosporine , tacrolimus , or daclizumab .

Dosage: The drug is usually given twice a day.
Take the medicine with a full glass of water.
Take the medicine on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.

About miss dose: Use the missed dose as soon as remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and use the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not use extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

Over dose:If used too much of this medicine. Overdose symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, unusual bleeding or bruising, and signs of infection.

Storage: Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
