The holiday season is just around the corner and eCommerce sales are expected to increase yet again. Mobile devices are to account for the rapidly growing eCommerce retail industry. As per the reports published by eMarketer, holiday sales are expected to increase by 15% this year. Overall, holiday season sales are expected to reach a total of $61.8 billion as compared to $53.7 billion from last year.

Having said that, mCommerce is also expected to play a vital role in the overall expenditures this season. eMarketer predicts that mobile’s share will reach 16% of online purchases in 2013, up from a previous prediction of a 15% mCommerce share this year.

The reason for this tremendous growth is simple, the mobile market has potential and large scale retailers want to tap into that market. Such keen interest is proof of the promising potential of growth that can be obtained by mobile eCommerce. Retailers such as Best Buy, Home Depot and Target have heavily invested in the mobile industry by creating interactive and user friendly mobile applications that are especially built for an enhanced shopping experience. Companies like Amazon and eBay have established a strong mobile infrastructure, which has helped them excel and leave the competition behind. In total, eMarketer predicts retail mCommerce sales will reach $41.68 billion this year and by 2017, retail sales made on mobile devices will climb to well over $100 billion.

You might wonder how mobile devices have helped in increasing sales. Firstly, there are people who enjoy the ability to directly buy from mobile and tablet devices. And then there are people who want to conduct thorough research on their handhelds prior to making a final purchase thru their traditional desktop systems. Either way mobile devices are drawing customers and contributing heavily to the retail eCommerce industry. Various marketing techniques have also forced people to buy from mobile devices.

Attractive Campaigns and Significant Discounts

To promote mobile applications, retails provide attractive discounts on purchases made via mobile apps. Because of which a lot of people have started using mobile applications to make purchases on a regular basis. Retail mobile apps save time and are hassle free, and users also have the liberty to make a purchase any time anywhere.

QR Codes

By simply scanning a QR code a customer is taken to an online product page with detailed information. Once the QR code is scanned by a mobile device, the user can find additional information about the product such as reviews, item comparison, and instant buy option. Retailers in the market believe that by creating a blend of online and offline shopping, retailers would be able to retain customers and increase sales.

Geo-Targeting

Almost everyone wants to get a great discount, and mobile apps have the ability to send push notifications offers using geo location. Offers can be sent right when customers are ready to walk into the store to provide them with special discounts or promotional offers.

Companies making use of these innovative tactics are witnessing legitimate results. All in all, the mCommerce industry has managed to take off well and is expected to grow by many folds, in the coming years.
