What Could Be the Best Upholstery Cleaning After Flood for Water Stains Formation

Home Improvement,Fashion & Cosmetics,Family & Parenting
If the water reached the upholstery, the fabric maybe stained or watermarked. If the chair or sofa was in the water for several hours or more, mud may have penetrated the fabric and padding. The padding will hold the water, causing mildew to grow inside and out.

Porous, soft or spongy materials such as carpet, upholstered furniture, sheetrock and bedding that are soaked by flood water or rainwater are very difficult to dry quickly. With sufficient moisture, microorganisms can reproduce in these materials to numbers that can present a health risk after only 48 hours. The only way to effectively prevent this growth is to control the moisture. Once the materials have been contaminated, they must either be thoroughly cleaned or disposed of.

The solution to removing water stains from cloth or fabric car seats is to focus on more than just the stains. With the aim of really cleaning them, you'll have to tackle the whole seat. Fortunately, the process is an easy one.

Things Needed

Dry Foam Upholstery Cleaner Brush Dry towel Vacuum with attachments

Instructions

Begin by vacuuming the seats using a vacuum with attachments. This will remove any loose dirt or debris. (If loose dirt is left on the seats, it will turn to mud when moistened and cause additional stains.) Spray the dry foam cleaner on the seats. Cover the entire seat, not just the areas with water stains. Brush the foam over the sprayed areas, working it gently into the fabric. Avoid scrubbing too hard with the brush as it can damage the surfaces of some cloth upholsteries. Wipe away the foam with a clean, dry towel. If you decide to salvage an upholstered piece, you can repair the wooden frame.

1. Disinfect the wood frame using one of the following three techniques. Wash it with a chlorine bleach solution (¾ cup bleach to 1 gallon of water) Spray it with a phenol product (such as Lysol) Follow directions on the label. Brush it with an undiluted pine oil disinfectant.

2. After disinfecting, put the frame in a well-ventilated location so that it can dry out slowly. Don't put it out in the sun. It will dry out too quickly, and the wood will warp and twist.

3. Periodically remove mildew from the frame. Mildew may grow on the frame until the moisture content of the wood drops below 20 percent or less. Clean off the mildew periodically, usingone of the disinfectants mentioned above.

4. After the frame dries out, reglue any loose joints.

Always follow the cleaning instructions attached to your upholstered furniture and if you are unsure, rather be safe than sorry.Furniture may be difficult or almost impossible to clean if it is upholstered or if sewage and other organic materials are involved. Other upholstered furniture does not. Act rapidly and follow their instructions precisely.
