If you love progressive rock music, then Trans Siberian Orchestra songs would definitely be on your iPod playlist. TSO is one of the most successful American progressive rock bands of the past decade. Selling more than 7 million albums, over $280 million worth of tickets and having played to over 7 million fans in 80+ cities, TSO is a musical sensation that has created its own niche in the world of music and inspired generations of fans around the world. TSO’s massive fan following has earned the band the title of world’s top acts by the Billboard magazine and, according to the Washington Post, the band is referred to as “the arena rock juggernaut”. Trans-Siberian Orchestra Founder Incorporated in 1993, TSO is the brainchild of the American producer, lyricist and composer Paul O’Neil. O’Neil has also managed and produced iconic bands that made history including greats like Aerosmith, Joan Jett, Scorpions and Savatage. He started his rock music career in the 70’s with the band called Slowburn. He was a lyricist and the co-composer. With Slowburn, O’Neil was not feeling it. He thought that the melodies were not showcasing his style of music, so it took a backseat in his life until the year 1993 when things started happening for Paul the way he wanted. Atlantic Records made O’Neil an offer to start his own band, which he accepted. That was when he founded TSO. His vision for TSO was to create a progressive rock band that would take this genre of music to a new level and push it to boundaries other bands did not. And truly, today TSO has lived up to it. The band’s musical style incorporates classical, symphonic, progressive and orchestral into heavy metal and rock opera, delivering edgy and one of a kind music that has spellbound millions of fans and made them die-hard lovers of TSO. The Band Members Jon Oliva To form this iconic band, O’Neil brought in Jon Oliva. Jon Oliva was previously with Savatage. He founded it and was the lead vocalist. However, since 1993 Jon Oliva has been with TSO as a composer, musician and vocalist. O’Neil invited Jon to become a part of the band because of his impressive four octave range and his ability to morph the sound of his voice to different styles. Jon Oliva has had highs and lows in his personal life like going to rehab and losing his brother, but all the experiences have made him stronger as a person and has allowed him to produce great and heart-felt music for fans. Robert Kinkel Robert is the co-producer/co-creator/co-composer and touring keyboardist in TSO. He has been active in the main stream music industry since 1980 and has also worked extensively with the progressive metal band Savatage. Kinkel is TSO’s featured keyboardist and musical director when they travel on East side tours. Kinkel has created great music and made significant contributions for the band so far. He also performs with New York based vocalist Dina Fanai.
