Like most boys growing up, Chris dreamed of getting his own vehicle when he got old enough. After he got his license, he began asking his parents if he could get a new vehicle. Of course, they told him no right away and would only allow him to drive one of their vehicles when he needed to go places. This worked for everyone, and even though Chris really wanted his own car, he knew he could not afford to get one on his own, and there were very few times that he was not allowed to use his parents car. When he was getting ready to go to college, the conversation began about him getting a vehicle to drive back and forth on weekends and holidays. Chris had very specific dreams about what he wanted to do for work when he finished school, and the vehicle that he wanted fit into where he saw his life going. Chris wanted to work on a farm. His dream was to one day own a ranch. The only crops that he wanted to grow were the ones that he would use to feed his cattle so that he would have to purchase less from outside sources. He wanted to have an Angus beef ranch with lots of cattle and a few other animals, like horses. This vision for a ranch, included a big vehicle. Specifically, he wanted a Ford F350 truck, that would allow him to pull a cattle trailer when needed, haul stuff around his ranch, and maneuver through the hilly or bumpy terrain that were inevitable in most fields. While Chris' parents were less than thrilled with his choice of vehicle, they agreed to go to the Ford dealers in their area and look at different options. They test drove the truck that Chris wanted first, and then drove a few others. While Chris tried them, he refused to actually consider them as an option. To the credit of the Ford dealers, they were very patient with the group of three people who all wanted something different. After lots of time, arguments and discussions, Chris and his parents agreed he could get the truck that he wanted. They would fund a portion of it, and he would have to pay for the other portion through jobs of his own. Chris was really happy with his truck, and even found a job on a farm! And on the rare occasion that he had a problem or needed service, he was always able to rely on the Ford dealers to fix it for him.
