Clarithromycin is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic. It should be used only to treat or prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria. Mechanism of action :
Purchase Clarithromycin online is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic. It is effective against a wide variety of bacteria, such as Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, and mycobacterium avium, and many others. Like all macrolide antibiotics, clarithromycin prevents bacteria from growing by interfering with their ability to make proteins. Due to the differences in the way proteins are made in bacteria and humans, the macrolide antibiotics do not interfere with production of proteins in humans. Advantages :
- longer half-life, allowing once- or twice-daily dosing;
- greater bioavailability after oral doses;
- lower incidence of the side effects abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting;
- Wider spectrum of antimicrobial activity.
Indications : - This drugs are indicated for the treatment of adults with mild to moderate infection caused by susceptible strains of the designated microorganisms in the conditions listed below:
- Acute maxillary sinusitis due to Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, or Streptococcus pneumonia.
- Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis due to Haemophilus influenzae, Haemophilus parainfluenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, or Streptococcus pneumonia.
- Community-Acquired Pneumonia due to Haemophilus influenzae, Haemophilus parainfluenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Chlamydia pneumoniae (TWAR), or Mycoplasma pneumonia.
Contraindications : This drug is contraindicated in patients having a known hypersensitivity to clarithromycin, erythromycin, or the macrolide anti-biotics. Concomitant administration of this medicine and the following drugs is contraindicated:cisapride, pimozide, astemizole, terfenadine and ergotamine or dihydroergotamine . There have been postmarketing reports of drug interactions when clarithromycin and/or erythromycin are coadministered with cisapride, pimozide, astemizole, or terfenadine resulting in cardiac arrhythmias (QT prolongation, ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation, and torsade de pointes) most likely due to inhibition of metabolism of these drugs by erythromycin and clarithromycin. Deaths happen to be reported. Drug interaction : Clarithromycin interacts with several drugs since it cuts down on the activity of liver enzymes that breakdown many drugs. This can lead to elevated bloodstream levels and unwanted effects in the affected drugs.Good examples of these interactions include - olchicine , simvastatin ,
- lovastatin, atorvastatin
- verapamil, amlodipine, and diltiazem.
Side effects : This drug is generally well tolerated, and side effects usually are mild and transient. Commonly reported side effects includenausea, diarrhea, abnormal taste, dyspepsia, abdominal pain andheadache. Rare but more serious side effects include liver failure, abnormal heart beats, hearing loss, and seizures. Dosage : This drug may be taken with or without food. For most infections the recommended adult dose is 250-500 mg of immediate release tablets twice daily or 1000 mg once daily for 7-14 days.
Storage : It should be stored at room temperature 15 -30 0C (59-86 F) in a tightly closed container.
