The Difference Between Digital Marketing Push and Pull Methods

Digital marketing employs the various media that are trendy today to reach out to customers to either buy or sell products. This strategy makes use of computers, smartphones, billboards and game consoles as the vehicles to bring their services or products to the people. This is a form of advertising that is very effective nowadays because of the large use of internet media and the extensive use of smartphones and cellular phones as a means of communication.

Pull and Push Advertising

There are two types of digital marketing techniques that are commonly used. The "pull" method is one where the products are actively sought by the consumer. The consumer will utilize means, such as a search engine, to look for products that he or she is interested in. Other ways that the product may have piqued the interest of the consumer is through advertising that appears as the individual opens his emails or views some information on the internet. Basically, it is up to the person whether he or she will click on the ad which is actually a link to a site that contains more information about it. Audio and video content as well as blogs are some examples of pull commerce. Search engine optimization is a technique that is cleverly used to promote sites and other content. It places keywords in the content of sites to make it easier to look for when such keywords are typed in search engines. The search engines will rank the sites according to how many keywords are in it as well as other factors that make the site optimized.

Push advertising is a more aggressive way of reaching the consumer, compared to the method described above. This kind of digital marketing actively pushes information and content to the people via their emails and advertisement in sites that they frequent. The emails are often classified as "spam" because they are sent en masse from a source that is not in the recipients' address book. It is not just in the internet that push commerce is performed by marketers. Some of these marketers send mass text messages to random numbers that they have to promote their services or products. Due to the complaints of some cellphone subscribers, efforts have been made to minimize the appearance of push retailing. Despite these efforts, some spam messages still get through.

While there is a certain aggressiveness to the push advertising technique, the pull method can also be aggravating for some. This is because of a feeling of being stalked by the site or the product that constantly appears on sites that one opens. Digital marketing is very effective because of the tenacity of some programs ion pushing their information and products into the face of the consumers. Even pull commerce can be tenacious, by constantly appearing in sites that the consumer frequents.

These are the two main techniques of digital marketing. They are very effective ways to bring the product or services to the consumer, without spending so much.
