That could end up being a serious strain on your wallet. Your best bet in the way of used cars is probably a late model sedan with less than 50,000 miles on it. A first or second-generation hybrid would be ideal. You can expect a vehicle like this to get close to 50mph a gallon. Plus, they are stylish and easy to drive. Any grateful teen would feel pretty privileged to drive one of these models around town. Are you interested in having your child get a sense of just how expensive it is to own and maintain an automobile? If so, you might want have them pay for their own gas or even their own insurance. A teen driver with an allowance and a part-time job should be able to afford at least part of these expenses. Used cars are great for young adults who are responsible and ready for a little more freedom. That doesn't mean you should allow them to be driving around at all hours of the night. Actually, most states have a set curfew for teen drivers. It just means that you can let them drive themselves to school, work, activities, and other worthwhile pursuits.
