The word ‘riddim’ is basically the Jamaican pronunciation of the English word ‘rhythm’. Already sounds cool, doesn’t it? However, when it comes to the reggae or dancehall jargon, it actually refers to the instrumental which accompanies a song. Therefore, dancehall music is comprised of a riddim and the vocal part. Dancehall/reggae music is not only popular in Jamaica. This is one of those music genres which, although it might not be top on your list of favorite music genres, you will definitely fall in love with a few songs.
