The Golden Chariot- Pride of the South India beckons you to discover worlds that are enriched with history and culture. The train is named after the famous stone chariot in Hampi in Southern India. On 23 January 2008, The Golden Chariot was unveiled on the tracks veneered in classic colors of purple and gold symbolizing elegance and golden jubilee celebration of Karnataka and on 10th March it made its 1st maiden journey. The train is operated by the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation and the Mapple group handles the hospitality services on the train. Designed and operated on the lines of the Palace of Wheels, the Golden Chariot tour offers an insight into treasure trove of archaeological wealth, abundant bounty for wildlife seekers and a kaleidoscope of culture for its esteemed guests.
Each one of the 18 thematic coaches’ onboard The Golden Chariot is designed to be your very own personal kingdom. The 44 cabins, fully equipped with modern amenities, are inspired by the Mysore and Belur-Halebeedu schools of art and architecture. The theme & interiors of the train are inspired by the rich craftsmanship of 14th century built Hosalya Temples & the onboard staff is attired in traditional dress The train houses two multi cuisine restaurants - Nala and Ruchi, each of which draws inspiration from mythological texts.
A delectable spread of fresh and aromatic vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisines is served in the most cordial manner to the guests. Nala draws its name from a king and legendary chef from the times of the Mahabharata whereas; Ruchi means 'fine taste' in Sanskrit. Designed to provide you an energizing escape from the off-train excursions, the lounge bar - Madira comes with an exclusive collection of wines and spirits. As you savor your drink, there’s music and performances by local artisans. At the Ayurveda centre, Spa and gym on the royal wheels discover age old traditions and cures to the modern day stress.
The Golden Chariot train schedule starts on Every Monday morning of the week from Bangalore and ends on next Monday respectively. The detailed itinerary of the train starts from Bangalore and covers Kabini Tiger reserve, Mysore Palace and Srirangapatnam fort, Hosalya temples, Hampi palace complex and temples, the Badami caves and in the end the golden beaches of Goa. The tariff of the Golden Chariot varies as per type of cabin and journey booked. Tourists have the option to book Deluxe Cabin, Junior Suite, Suite & Presidential suite. The tariff is inclusive of all the accommodation, meals, sightseeing, entrance fees and cultural programs on board.
