The first two games of the Bulls this season hasn't provided much to be excited about for fans of the team. Their game against the Heat on the opening night of the NBA was a disaster as they got blown out by the defending champs and all the talks about the Bulls being the team to dethrone the Heat was silenced for quite a while. Their game against the Knicks, although they did win, didn't go too well either. In two games, one lesson was learned. The Bulls simply suck when it comes to offense. The Lack of Ball Movement Many expected the Bulls to have a better offense this season due to the return of Derrick Rose. However, as evidenced by the first two games, just having your star back on the team doesn't solve the weakness of the team. The Bulls lack of 3-point shooting is a big problem that they need to overcome through better ball movement. However, in the first two games, the ball movement was missing and they had to resort to giving the ball to one player and hoping he could create a play. Also due to the lack of ball movement, the Bulls' off-season acquisition Mike Dunleavy Jr. hasn't been very effective as many expected him to be as he struggled to get the shot off as defenses had easier time covering him in the stagnant Bulls offense. Too Much Reliance on Defense for Offense Another reason why many thought the Bulls won't have much problem on offense was that their defense usually generates the offense for themselves. However, in both games, their defense hasn't really been looking the way liked it used to. On game one, they had plenty of lapses on rotation and they even got abused on individual defense by the Heat's aggressive backcourt. Against the Knicks, they still didn't play that impressive of a defense and even got outworked in rebounding in the later part of the game. Honestly, the only reason they won the game was because of the stupid offense of the Knicks that was limited to giving the Carmelo Anthony the ball and pray he makes those dumb shots. Too Late to Develop and Offense? It is still very early in the season and the Bulls offense can improve. However, looking at the team for the past two seasons, I don't see much reason to be hopeful that the team's offense will improve. Individual players like Rose and Noah might step their game up, but it's hard for me to believe that the team will be able to develop a better scheme on offense.
