The Fountain of Youth, The Elixir for Life, The Philosophers Stone. Yes, we've heard them all, and yes we've pretty much all agreed that these exist in the realms of pure fantasy. But maybe not. Today we call it Anti Aging, there are millions of disciples, and Molecular Biology is leading us into this fascinating new world... beyond fantasy. Three score and ten. As a baby boomer I grew up being told that this was the age I would live to... maybe a few years less, maybe a few years more, however 70 was the average age that I was taught to believe in. All of my friends believed the same thing, after all, back then our parents certainly looked old, and our grandparents, well, don't even go there.. positively ancient. Anti aging wasn't on the radar. However, we are now seeing, all around us people living well into their 80s, 90s and the number of people reaching 100 is increasing rapidly. Population growth most certainly contributes to this increase and our hygiene and sanitation has improved remarkably over the past 100 years. These factors are increasing our life spans however, is it productive to live longer? Modern lifestyle diseases are on the rise. There are more people with heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and dementia than ever before. Some of the Anti Aging followers often forget that living longer also opens us up to these other problematic sides of life. What is the point of living to 80 or 90 or into your 100s for that matter, if you are incapable of enjoying your life and are infirm, or one of many other old age lifestyle diseases has you in its grip? But there is an Anti Aging group that believes living well into our 100s, even to 150 and beyond, is within the realms of possibility, and is actually more of a near term reality; And amazingly we will be able to live that long with vitality, abundance, youthful vigor and free from all forms of modern day disease. Sound too good to be true? Is this fact or fiction? Not according to Dr Bill Andrews, Molecular Biologist, President and CEO of Sierra Sciences. Andrews has worked in the biotech industry for 28 years, focusing the last 15 years on finding ways to extend human lifespan and along the way he and his team have opened a minefield of possibilities. One of the most highly respected scientists in the USA, described as 'The Man Who Would Stop Time' by Popular Science Magazine, he has been featured on the Today Show, BBC, NBC and HBO documentaries. His Anti Aging research is the stuff of legends. Dr. Andrews, who at 61 is an Ultra Marathon runner, has focused the last 15 years on finding ways to extend the human lifespan and health-span through telomere maintenance. When asked about Anti Aging and staying young, Dr Andrews likes to say... "Bad Things Happen When Telomeres get Short". OK, but whats a telomere? When a cell divides, the genetic material inside that cell needs to be copied. This process is called DNA replication. Scientists suggest that the limitation on cell division is rooted in the very nature of DNA replication. The enzymes that replicate a strand of DNA are unable to continue replicating all the way to the end, which causes the loss of some DNA. Fortunately for us, we are born with long repetitive sequences of DNA at the end of each of our chromosomes, which later shorten during the normal DNA replication process. These repetitive sequences are called TELOMERES. Each time our cells divide and our chromosomes replicate, our telomeres become shorter. When we are first conceived, the telomeres in our single-cell embryos are approximately 15,000 nucleotides long. Our cells divide rapidly in the womb, and by the time we are born, our telomeres have decreased in length to approximately 10,000 nucleotides. They shorten throughout our lifetime, and when they reach an average of about 5,000 nucleotides, our cells cannot divide any further, and we die of old age. Scientists have known about Telomeres since the 1930s and that they shorten with age since the 1970s. Yet none have been able to actually figure out a way to stop the shortening - that is, until now. Dr. Andrews explains, "Just like the caps on your shoelaces, the older the telomeres get, the more worn out and shorter they become, until they are rendered useless. Telomerase Enzyme Deficiency Syndrome (T.E.D.S) is one of the biggest, yet most unknown killers of humans today. By putting a halt to the shortening of our telomeres - or even better, lengthening them - the cures for a long list of telomere shortening related diseases is one step closer. Plus, you could extend your healthy life indefinitely." This is Anti Aging in action. Dr Andrews is not the only one who is on the quest to cure aging. He was originally part of the team awarded The 2009 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, Elizabeth H. Blackburn, Carol W. Greider and Jack W. Szostak for the discovery of "how chromosomes are protected by telomeres and the enzyme telomerase". Just have a look at Amazon, type in 'Anti Aging' and there are tons of books written by highly respected Scientists and Doctors. In all of them the predictions are the same. We Will Live Much Longer. There are ways right now to extend your lifespan and be fit and healthy until the day you die. Living a healthy lifestyle free of stress and artificial foods is a good start, and of course, whatever you do, don't smoke. A fine glass of wine never hurt. After all we want enjoy the good life (the author is biased in this regard). But are there other ways to be granted this promise of a healthy extended life? Well yes there certainly seems to be... TA Sciences, based in New York U.S.A., claims that their flagship product TA-65 is a proven telomerase activator that was originally discovered and patented by California biotech company Geron. They say you can be tested to measure your telomeres before, during, and after taking TA-65 to show actual changes in telomere length. But it doesn't come cheap. It can cost you up to $2,200 for a three month supply, depending on your age. Isagenix, a direct selling company based in Chandler, Arizona U.S.A., promotes Product B, claiming.. "Product B positively supports telomere health by combining scientific breakthroughs in telomere support and the benefits of antioxidants in youthful ageing. Product B helps maintain harmonious function of cells and healthy telomeres so you can live a longer, healthier life". A definite plus for Product B is that Dr Bill Andrews is on the formulation team for Product B and it costs $255 for a three month supply, around 10% of it's competitor. You could say that the jury is still out on whether we will be living much longer or not. But the facts are now more evident than ever - that the key to eternal life has been found and the lock is just waiting to be opened. So, fact or fiction, only time will tell, however all the buzz in the scientific community agree that there are people right now walking amongst us who will live to 150. Maybe it's me... Maybe it's YOU!! About the Author Scott Bedford is a former Naturopath and in his quest for youthful aging has been using natural Anti Ageing products for 12 months. In this time he has noticed several very positive changes. I sleep easier and deeper; My energy levels are up..and up; My skin is much more toned; and some pigmentation spots on my hands and face have virtually disappeared; My hair is thicker and my eyesight seems to be better. I am 55 years of age and I'm now a firm believer in anti ageing. I feel better than I have felt in 10 years. In fact I reckon if I was tested now my biological age would be somewhere between 40 and 45. I must get that test done! I have helped dozens of people get the same results. To find out how you can get these results go to Breakthrough In Molecular Biology That Has The Scientific Community Buzzing
