Winter is virtually upon us and as we head towards December it is time to get thinking about what you can do outside with the kids when the snow starts to fall, and therefore it is time to start thinking about your winter sledging requirements. It could well be that you think you already have things covered with regards to sledging this winter and that the old wooden sledge you have used for years will continue to do the job this winter, and you would not be far wrong there as wooden sledges are great as they are designed to be very hard wearing, last for many years, and can be handed down from generation to generation. Indeed it is a tradition elsewhere in northern Europe for families to do just that. Therefore if you want to purchase a new sledge that is going to last for a great many years to come then certainly a traditional wooden sledge is something to consider, particularly when the vast majority of them are large enough to fit on at least two if not three people, making them ideal for families to use. They are extremely tough, durable and with metal runners they are very unlikely to crack when they hit a hard bump or stone like plastic can do. However they do cost more than plastics sledges do to buy and whilst I mentioned plastic sledges cracking you will be pleased to know that a good supplier of plastic sledges will supply ones that are made out of HDPE plastic that is designed to withstand sub zero temperatures and cracking. This is very important although it may not seem so at first, because the vast majority of plastics will actually crack of their own accord when the temperature drops below freezing. Therefore a very cheaply made sledge not made from HDPE could actually begin to deteriorate and crack as soon as it gets cold! Also now is just the right time to buy a sledge as you will find that good online retailers will have a wide range of models currently in stock and they will currently be able to offer delivery within a couple of days or less. However if you wait until it snows then you will find that not only do they quickly sell out, but that also delivery times will drift out as due to the snow the parcel carriers will not be able to get your sledge to you.
