To treat digestive tract conditions an oral prescription dipentum is used. It is also used to cure certain other conditions such as bowel disease. The active ingredient of the dipentum capsules is olsalazine sodium. In each of the capsule the inert ingredient is 250 mg. This medication cannot cure the disease but has a strong effect in reducing the symptoms of the conditions such as rectal bleeding, stomach pain which are the results of the irritation and swelling in the colon or rectum. This effective medication can be used to ease the attacks and symptoms. How does the drug work? The drug is used in the condition ulcerative colitis. It prevents the attacks and for the long term maintenance of remission of the condition patients can use this drug. This medication sometimes can also be used in combination with the corticosteroids which is an anti inflammatory medication. How to use dipentum? The recommended dose of the medication is slowly increased over a 1 week period starting from two capsules daily and slowly increasing to four daily. The dose for the children depends upon the age of the child. The capsule can be taken at regular intervals with meals and this medication should be equally divided in doses. There are many things which are affected such as other medical conditions, weight of the body and other medications. It is important that people taking this drug should take the capsule exactly as the doctor has recommended. In case you missed one dose never take a double dose. Take the advice of the doctor in case you missed or overtook the campuses. Take the capsule with your meal or following the meal. Storage of the medication It is important that you store the medication at safe place. Store it at the room temperature and keep it away from the sunlight. In case you are allergic to olsalazine or any other ingredients of the medication then avoiding taking or consult your doctor first. Those who are allergic to salicylates should not take the medication. There are many drugs that can do interact with dipentum capsules such as warfarin, heparin, thioguanine, and mercaptopurine and varicella vaccine. Depending upon your conditions your doctor will advise you to stop taking the capsules , change one of the prescriptions, leave everything as in etc. to manage your drug interaction always seek a help of your doctor. Dipetnum also has few side effects and it is important that you take this medication with extreme caution.
