Marble, if cared for properly, is a beautiful addition to any home. Cleaning marble is not difficult; however, it is important to learn the best way to clean marble, or you could damage it. Maintenance Cleaning for Your Marble The best way to clean your marble tile is just to wipe it with a damp cloth and then wipe it dry. If you are trying to get dirt or dust off, you can use a mild detergent such as a dish detergent a few times per year. Cleaning Stains from Your Marble The first step in cleaning your marble is to determine what kind of stain you're dealing with. Different stains require different cleaning techniques. Treat stains as soon as you see them, and you'll have a much easier time getting rid of them. For stains such as tea, coffee, soft drinks and other non-oily liquids, the best way to clean them is to get a clean white cloth and pour 20 percent peroxide combined with a few drops of ammonia. Place the cloth over the stain, cover it with plastic wrap and tape it down with masking tape. If you don't cover the cloth, you'll have to add more liquid later to keep the cloth damp. This should be left on the stain for anywhere from 1 hour to 2 days, depending on how long the stain has been there. The earlier you treat the stain, the less time it will take to get rid of it. For oil stains, sprinkle the stained area with a fine powder. You can use corn starch or whiting powder for this process. After a few minutes, brush off the powder and apply it again. This time, let the powder sit for a day. When you are ready to remove the stain, you can either scrub it with a stiff brush and hot soapy water, or you can use a cloth with ammonia. Be sure to rinse and dry the marble when you're done. If these techniques don't work, you can purchase cleaners designed specifically for marble countertop. Preventing Stains You can help prevent staining your marble by wiping up any spills quickly. Use a coaster to avoid rings from forming. Acids will damage your marble by etching it, so if you spill fruit juices or other acidic liquids, clean them up immediately. If you want to seal the marble so that it doesn't stain as easily, you can apply a thin layer of colorless wax to the marble. Don't use this technique if you have white marble because it could cause yellowing. You can also buy marble sealers that serve the same purpose. Not all marble needs to be sealed, so check with a professional to determine if your marble does need sealing. Finally, let me have a short conclusion.
