The chrome industry was in its heyday many years ago when this was the cheapest way of using a steel base material and making sure it did not rust by electro-plating the steel to give a nice shiny finish, and it was used for anything from knives and forks to car decorative trim. As the latest steel developments came along, with stainless steel coming to the fore and being used for a wide range of rust proof applications, the chrome industry contracted greatly and it seemed like its days were numbered. However like many things from the past there has been a renaissance in the use of chrome as a decorative material in a number of niche industries and this is particularly true of the electrical fittings industry. The use of chrome electrical switches and sockets has become quite large and the finished articles are excellent in their looks and in their longevity. The polished chrome finish is a sparkling finish, which fits ideally into the more modern application as it works well with the latest interior designs. It can gain a few fingerprints on the fascia but the application of a light lacquer has reduced this down a very small amount and the highly polished surface is very easily cleaned with a soft cloth and some cleaning fluid. The fact that the chrome finish can be easily be cleaned of all dirt and bacteria makes it an electrical fitting that can used in an area where this is a problem. This makes the chrome electrical switches and sockets ideal for kitchen usage and it is often used in bathrooms for ceiling pull switches and shaver points and it can be used in a host of other clean room applications. Polished Chrome sockets and switches can be found for all requirements with single, double, triple and quadruple switches both in rocker switches and also in dimmer switches. The dimmer switch is particularly attractive with the cylindrical chrome plated switch with a push on push off option to enable the user to pre-set the light level and retain it by the simple push switch. Sockets are ideal with single and double switched and unswitched options and these do look very smart particularly if placed a little way up the wall instead of at the bottom. This is also a lot easier for switching the sockets on and off or changing plugs.
