Inside the 40 meter Amarnath Cave, the Stalagmite is formed due to freezing of water drops that fall from roof of cave onto the floor and grows up vertically and is considered to be Shiva Linga. According to a popular belief it has been claimed that the lingam grows and shrinks with the phases of moon reaching its height during the summer. Devotees can perform Amarnath Yatra on foot either from Srinagar or from Pahalgam. The latter journey takes approximately 5 Days. During this religious yatra, there are various non-profit organizations that provide a great helping hand to do this pilgrimage. They set up food supply and resting tents which are free of cost.
