Ping has built a club that will forgive those slight over the top swing flaws, or a little too handsy pull hooks. This Ping G20 Driver is definitely a "Game Improvement Club", but it does sport all the forgiveness of a lot of "Super Game Improvement Clubs" I have played. Holding the G20 in your hand makes you just stare at the club in wonderment. You notice a powerful yet elegant shape made of titanium that just wants you to unleash it on some poor unsuspecting golf ball. Sure the profile is large and slightly elongated (460cc) but it’s not huge where you feel like you’re swinging a small SUV on a stick. I’ll touch on the shaft a little later but in terms of looks it’s very similar to what was offered last year in the cheap Ping G15 Driver and the Ping K15 Driver for sale and meshes well with the overall look of the G20. The aerodynamic shape, or at least as aerodynamic as 460cc can be, combined with the variable wall thickness, the shaft that comes with the G20, and the external weight is really a nice package that is designed to help the golfer get the ball airborne and fast. The driver comes in 8.5-, 9.5-, 10.5- and 12-degree lofts. I tried a 10.5-degree driver with a regular flex shaft. The distance increase wasn't obvious like it was with the Diablo Octane, but on the average I did gain a few yards per drive. Accuracy was good, and most of my drives were in the middle. I'll give it an above-average rating for accuracy, forgiveness and workability. I can't say I was all that fond of its sound and feel on impact, but it gave me consistent results. It's hard for me to describe the sound at impact; it wasn't unpleasant, but it wasn't satisfying either. In my estimation, PING makes some of the best stock grips in the industry. I’m very picky, if not weird, when it comes to the feeling I like and want from my grips and the grip that’s found on the G20 is one of the few that I would not change and would put into play right away. It’s got a great texture to it that is slightly rough but not overly so. It was the same sort of story with the looks of the PING G20 driver. I didn't hate how it looked, but I didn't love it either. Earlier I mentioned the club's "reasonably-decent" looks, and that kind of sums up how I feel about it. The face sets up well to the ball. The sole of the cheap golf clubs has a somewhat unusual shape, but the crown looks quite traditional. You can't see the unusual sole at address so it didn't influence my opinion on the club's looks one way or the other. The head is the maximum-allowable size (460cc) and looks every bit of it. Overall, the g20 driver is solid enough that I suggest you consider giving it a test drive. The driver is a bit bulky-looking for my tastes, but it's nothing I can't live with.
