Owning Your Own Treadmill Can Eliminate the Risk of Disease at the Gym

Fitness,Health,Online Shopping
A while ago I wrote a post outlining sixteen good reasons to own your own treadmill. I need to confess I ignored one of the most vital reasons of all: the risk of illness and infection. WebMD not too long ago had an article discussing the dangers of going to the local gym.

Germs and bacteria are found everywhere, including fitness centers. The last thing you desire when you're making an attempt to be healthy is to get sick because of the health club membership.

Fungi, bacteria, and viruses are typical in wet areas such as showers and swimming pool decks, sweat left to dry on equipment are also a breeding ground for micro organism. Bacteria can additionally flourish on used towels on locker room floors, weights, sweaty treadmill machines, ellipticals, other cardiovascular machines, and benches which users sit on in between workouts, says Matt Carlen, director of LifeBridge Health and Fitness in Baltimore.

Let us not overlook the increased risk of contracting a cold, the flu, or any other communicable disease just by being in close proximity of others who are infected, not to mention using equipment and facilities that they have come in contact with. With the cold and flu season rapidly approaching this is decidedly something to consider seriously.

Avoiding the Risk Obviously, the best way to steer clear of these difficulties is to buy your own treadmill or elliptical and exercise at home. Nevertheless, if you need to go to a public or private gym simply because you wish access to a swimming pool, hot tubs, or other exercise equipment, keep these recommendations in mind.

If your gym has a swimming pool or hot tub, ask the employees how frequently they are cleaned and how often the chemical stability is checked, suggests Henry Williford, Ed.D, FACSM, professor of physical education and exercise science at Auburn University and a spokesman for the American College of Sports Medicine.

Wearing bath footwear or flip-flops to help lessen the chances of acquiring athlete's foot, toenail fungus, and viral or microbial infections is a must.

Rinse your hands frequently, wipe down the equipment prior to and after you exercise, and sit on a towel when in the sauna or on benches. All fitness centers should have an automated sanitizer dispenser, and make sure you use it as much as you can. It doesn't hurt to provide your own hand sanitizer with you, as well. With cold and flu time of year upon us, if you're ill with a cold or flu, stay home until you've been totally free of fever for at least a day, so you don't distribute the germs.

Realizing that it may be healthier to own your own equipment and work out at home, it will be definitely an excellent time to visit Treadmill and Elliptical Reviews at http://www.treadmillbargains4U.com and make an investment in your health and quality of life. If you are fascinated by a treadmill, I suggest you consider the top rated Sole F80 treadmill or the Sole F63 treadmill. You can read reviews of these and other treadmills at Treadmill and Elliptical Reviews.
