Persistence must be adapted if you are determined to achieve a successful lifestyle. It is not possible to achieve any worthwhile goals if you are not determined to stick it out until you make them a reality. You cannot just lay back and hope that whatever success you want in life will suddenly appear without some effort on your part. You must not only be persistent about becoming successful but you most also have a well – defined plan to achieve it. When I became dissatisfied with my job in the family business I realized if I really wanted to change direction of my career I needed to be persistent about making the change. When I announced to my dad and my wife that I was contemplating a change it wasn’t a happy announcement. They could not see the extent of my dissatisfaction of the job. My wife in particular was concerned about my wanting to change a career at the age of 42 years. Since I now had a family I needed to support she wondered if I could find a job with an adequate income that would accomplish that. Still I was persistent about making a career change because the stress was now becoming a real problem. It got so bad at times that I even left the shop for a walk down the street to relieve the stress. No one seemed to realize how stressful I was becoming. My dad use to comment, “What’s wrong with you”? When I told him of all the things that I was concerned about he still didn’t realize the extent of my frustrations. There finally came a day when my persistence reach a high note and I decided to send out some resumes for a position in sales. After much thinking about it for months now I realized that a sales career was what interested me the most. My persistence finally paid off eventually when I got a response to be interviewed for an outside sales position. However after about a year and a half because of a dispute with my sales manager I left the company. Being persistent more than ever now I was determined to find a sales position that I could be happy about. After a couple of months of sending out more resumes and searching for ads in the newspaper for a sales position I finally got a response to be interviewed, went for an appointment and got hired that evening on the spot. The sales position turned out to be so good that it caused me to spend the next 20 years in it. After several years in it got even better when I was promoted to a sales supervisor. After six years in that position I had opened several territories for the company and hired a sales staff to manage them. Even though this position came to an end after my 20 years of dedication when the president announced he was selling the business to the competitor, I had to turn on my persistence mode once again. Because I was not yet qualified for social security benefits I needed to find a new sales position to extend out my career for another two years. I did finally find a sales position with a company who had comparable products to the company I had worked for. So I spent two years with them until I was qualified for social security. Now I’m retired but retain my persistence more because I still have goals I want to achieve before I die. The goal I want to achieve most before I die is to have a very active website and earn multiple sources of income. It is a goal I have wanted to achieve for many years. I not only want to benefit from the income I can generate from it but I am also interested in providing products that others can benefit from also.
