It is easy to wake up lost each morning. This happens to most of us and it happens to me as well, says Bishop KP Yohannan. Somehow, during the night we tend to forget the big realities about God and the universe and mostly the Gospel. We desperately seek to be steady with the biblical truth rather than stumbling forward to live by it. We tend to forget the big realities of the day as well as we catch ourselves living on the idiocy of assumptions that we will constantly remember things that really matter and that we will act in line with each one of them. We assume that the realm of the visible and the touched will not overwhelm the realm of the unseen and the untouched. However, in reality, be it night or day, we never stay awake to what is truly important on the long term basis. We behave like college goers who sit in church every Sunday morning struggling to keep their eyes open after a much avoided late Saturday night outing. Eyelids droop and our mind wanders from what is being spoken of the Bible to redundant, true-to-life reverie that may or may not end with an awkward full-body jolt snapping us awake, back to reality. So, over time, we’ve learned to put structures in place that reminds us of those invisible situations, especially during those sleepy, half-conscious mornings. Hence, one effort would be to list at least three truths, to start with, that you have developed over the years and pin it against the wall that faces you when you sleep. This is the list of daily reminders that you would need most to act as constant reminders of things that you miss out on each day. Many of them will overlap substantially, which means that they act as a double reminder only to reinforce your primary purpose. Thus, Bishop KP Yohannan has added a short commentary for each in hope that they will help you in your pursuit of remembering the truths that you are prone to assume and forget. 1) God exists - Simple, Basic, but for a naturalist, and a narcissistic, a challenge. We assume that all there is in the world is what lies before us - our bed, family, friends and colleagues and most importantly, you. The simple yet ultimate existence of God clears your vision and makes you small. It infuses a meaning into every step that God exists and that He reigns within us. 2) God loves us all - Another huge biblical reality that instantly counters your hesitation to embrace the ultimate authority of God, reminding us that He has set his affections on our very being that is far from indifferent toward us. 3) Jesus died for us, and the Father has now bound himself to give us only good things – This central reality of all history - The cross, is an objective truth set in time and space. It instantly draws our gaze away from our own capacity to garner acceptance from God through our efforts. Furthermore, the cross make clear that even the harshest trials will come to us as blessings for the ultimate goodness, no matter how bad we may feel at that instant.
