Employee background screening practices should be incorporated as a critical process by organisations in the process of hiring.Organisations thinking of hiring prospective employees should consider the importance and need of employee background check.Employee screening practices should be formulated in a way so as to ensure the best outcome in context of best hiring practices.The employee screening practices ought to focus on a certain approach so that only the best among the prospective line of candidates actually join the organisation.The organisations today prefer to be proactive by following a need based background screening practice. Organisations want to mitigate the risks attached to unverified hiring. This calls for a systematic and well defined employee background check process to be identified and adopted.

The identity of the person who is going to become a part of the organisation should be known.Government issued identity cards help in proving the identity of the person. It also proves the genuineness and authenticity of the individual. So organisations are in a better position to hire a candidate who has a bonafide identity. Organisations can become prone to hiring imposters in case the hiring decision is not based on a pre employment background screening.The prospective job candidates come from all parts of the country. Therefore the background screening process should verify the address provided by the candidate. This equips the organisation with the ability to reach the person in case of an emergency or requirement. Unless the stated address is verified, organisations would not come to know of any fake supply of information by the candidate.

Employee background check should also search for any criminal involvement of the candidate. Police authourities also help in tracing any activities of criminal nature registered against the address provided by the employee. Fitment of the prospective employee with respect to the job role, and organisational culture also becomes very important.The employee's education and past work experience should match with the requirements of the job for which the person is being hired.

The last but not the least important area of concern in the process of conducting background screening of candidates is identifying and analysing the reasons of gap between two education or two employments.The gaps when stated by the candidate should be verified through an intensive background check. There could be a possibility of a criminal past in between the gaps stated. If unstated gaps are uncovered during the process of employee screening it needs to be analysed properly to ascertain the authenticity of the reason of the gap. This practice saves the organisation from entering into future legal hassles involved when an employee with a criminal background is hired without a proper employee background check.
