When we see used cars for sale on a lot, for the most part they look great. They are clean and shiny. There is no visible damage. They must be as nice under the hood and in the cab as they look on the outside, right? The answer to this question is hopefully, but you do not know until you see for yourself. With the proclivity of used cars for sale on the market today, you will be sure to find some clean, quality ones, and some that are not so clean. The problem is that you cannot tell how well kept a vehicle is unless you really examine it. What do you need to look for? There are various areas to check when examining potential vehicle purchases, so let's take a look at some of the most important areas. Before we begin, we have to make sure that we have everything we need to adequately examine the used cars for sale that we are interested in. Be sure to bring a notebook and pen to write down important notes like asking price, the vehicle identification number, mileage, etc. Next, you want to make sure to bring a small flashlight to thoroughly examine the engine block for any leaks. Along with these items, it is also important to bring a magnet to test a vehicle's body for concealed repairs, paper towels to check the oil, and a compact disc and IPOD to check the automobile's stereo system. Once you have all of these items, you are ready to find your automobile. The first area to examine with used cars for sale is the exterior. When looking at this area, keep an eye out for cracks in the windshield, dents, or scratches in the paint, door and trunk seams that are not properly aligned, paint mismatches and steel body panels that do not hold a magnet. Any of these red flags can tip you off to a possible prior accident, or simple neglect of the vehicle. Next, take a look at the tires. Are they all the same brand? Are they a brand you're familiar with? Make sure that they do not have any cracks, bubbles or cuts, and that they are worn evenly. If there is uneven wear, it could point to alignment and suspension issues. Also, take a quick look at the spare tire. Is it present and inflated? Are the jack and lug wrench accompanying it? Are they functional? Probably the most important part when examining used cars for sale is the inspection of engine compartment. For this exercise, be sure to look at the engine both while it is running and idle. While running, be on the lookout for black or blue smoke coming out of the exhaust. Black smoke indicates excessive oil consumption, and blue smoke is a tell-tale sign that the engine is burning oil. Also, make sure that the engine is odor- free while in operation. When the automobile is turned off, check the oil level, check for corrosion around battery terminals and leaks, and make sure that there are no thick, black deposits on the engine block. Before making your purchase, also be sure to check the vehicle's suspension, cleanliness, and functionality of the cab. Also, give the vehicle a thorough test drive testing acceleration, braking and transmission. Looking for used cars for sale in New Orleans? Check out: http://raybrandttoyota.com.
