Fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) is a condition which results from maternal exposure to alcohol during pregnancy. The limit of exposure has not yet been determined. It requires experience and expertise to differentiate them from those in affected children. Treatment:- No treatment is available for fetal alcohol syndrome. Mental retardation and learning difficulties may persist for life. Physical deformities and heart defects can be reduced to some extent by surgery. Special schooling and behavioral counseling will also help. Prevention:- 1. Not drinking alcohol before or during pregnancy 2. Completely giving up alcohol in childbearing years 3. Seeking professional help to get rid of alcohol problem. This disorder is not usually evident before delivery and more time will be taken for diagnosis worsening the situation.
