History of Yoga might be tracked back to Indus Valley Civilization. Since then there have been a lot of adjustments in yoga to suit our needs. A great deal of changes have been made, which have brought about the advancement in yoga styles.

Here are 5 common types of Yoga along with their benefits.

Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga is easy to learn basic form Yoga. It was begun in India around the fifteenth century and presently is very popular in the west. A beginner is normally introduced to the world of yoga through Hatha Yoga. The basic concept of Hatha Yoga is to practice various asanas. These asanas are greatly helpful for the physical fitness of the practitioners.

Reduction of stress, balanced physical exercise and breathing improvement can be achieved through Hatha yoga. It boosts the immune system. Beginners and those who wish to learn basics of yoga are advised to practice Hatha yoga.

Bikram Yoga

It is popularly known as hot yoga as it is practiced in hot and humid conditions. The temperature of the room is maintained at around 95 to 100 degree Fahrenheit. Weight reduction, muscular strength, muscular endurance and cardiovascular adaptability are the aspects covered in Bikram yoga. There are 26 separate postures in Bikram Yoga.

As it involves lot of physical activity and is practiced in hot and damp conditions, it helps in removing toxins from the body. Recovery from an injury is made easy with practice of Bikram yoga. It is prescribed to those persons who need to improve the flexibility of their body or want to lose weight.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga

AshtangaVinyasa yoga is commonly referred as Ashtanga yoga. K. PattabhiJois gave it its name and also popularized its practice. Ashtangavinyasa yoga is named after the eight limbs of yoga mentioned in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. It contains both physical poses and breathing exercises. The practice is begun with the popular Sun Salutations or Surya Namaskar.

Reducing dangers of heart disease and stress while improving flexibility and strength are some benefits of Ashtanga yoga. The mental benefits include self-control, focus and calmness.

Iyenger Yoga

More than 60 years ago, yoga master B.K.S Iyenger created theIyenger yoga style. The eight aspects as per The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali are covered in this as well. Its principal focus is on the alignment of body, which the practitioners aim to achieve with the help of props like straps, blankets and blocks. Performing standing postures and holding them for extended period of time are main aspects in this style of yoga.

By practicing Iyengar yoga, the strength and body balance improves. It is very helpful in speedy recovery from an injury. People with back problems can benefit by practicing this style of yoga.

Power Yoga

The American interpretation of Ashtanga yoga is Power yoga. The pace of performing asanas is the thing that separates Power Yoga from the original. In Power yoga each pose moves naturally into the other and there is no pause between two poses.

Building muscles of the body can be achieved by Power yoga. It provides phenomenal training for sports persons.
