My name is Massimo, after 40 years spent working in the neon sign industry (insegne luminose velletri, in italian), I've decided to create a website to promote my artisanal work, upon suggestion of my son. However, it is not simple for a 60 years old man to understand the logics of the internet... there I am, writing an article about it. I will try to portrait which are the hardest things to master for an old man like me. Some of the might look so simple that shouldn't even be mentioned here, but keep in mind that I am not that smart, however I accept suggestions, so that if you feel I got something wrong, just let me know and I will try to comply. First, the indexing is an unknown topic to me: what's a bot? what's a robot.txt? How does it work? What's a template? I am using Wordpress at the moment, as it provides me with a good start, i mean that column in the top part called header, i supposed, and the other in the bottom part known as footer. For someone like me that was born in the 50's, that surived to the rise of television, which is the best attitude to explore the web? I understand that a sitemap is somewhat a map of the site, and that this can be submitted to Google or other search engines but somehow it looks like i got this wrong! Moreover, my son keeps telling me that my computer is full of errors, Avira is looking me from the side part of the screen, telling me that there is a virus that i can cancel and that is not going to be cancelled for some other reason. How can you young people survive to all of this? Basically, I don't know. I've created my website: http://max-insegne.com and you are welcome to send me your feedback, for the graphics, layout, indexing and so on. If you see something that is not well built, or if you feel that I am doing it wrong, which will perfectly reasonable to me and that is why I am here at this moment, please let me know. I have no capabilities apart from my own immagination, let's put it in this way: i have no technical skills. However, i can draw. So if you need a drawing, let me know and I will exchange my knowledge with you. I would be grateful. In the meanwhile, I will continue to learn about this new world while my pasta is cooking in the pot. Yes, pesky italians...
