The approach to the home should be easyand clear with no low-hanging branches or shrubs crowding the walk.A welcoming new doormat is always a good idea. Home photography often will show only one direction or angle in aroom. Videos show much more, Kanerva says, so ensure rooms lookgreat from any angle with the following tips: Look for blank spots on walls or between furniture. Stand in theroom and turn slowly around so no shelf, tabletop or counter isempty. But don"t overdo it.
Replace a collection of ninesmall vases with three large ones; don"t overcrowd the diningroom table with too many chairs. Fully open all doors. Remove items behind doors, including hangingstorage racks. Turn on all lights, open all blinds and windows.
Ensure lightfixtures are clean and have the brightest bulbs available andwindows are clean. Make sure the backs of chairs and sofas don"t face a doorway.These photograph badly and often look uninviting. Cleaning goes without saying, but a better-than-usual clean isrecommended because the camera picks up everything, says Moroto.Common faux pas include ring stains on granite and tabletops, duston air return vents and blinds, and toothpaste spray spots onbathroom mirrors and taps. In the kitchen, put away salt and pepper shakers, treat bins,phones and fridge magnets.
In the bathroom, remove shampoo, soapand other bottles from tubs and showers. Straighten artwork,mirrors and picture frames; organize the closet; and hide cords andshoes. Park your car outside your home until the photographer arrives toensure another car isn"t blocking the view. Finally, take afinal walk your house so you"re prepared to tell thephotographer about its best features.
"Give us an idea of what makes a room great so we can capturethat in the photos," Moroto says. "If the best thingabout the kitchen is the mountain view you see when washing dishes,then we will capture that.".
