Over the years, many have lamented about the waning of quality big men in the NBA. Although there are some pretty good defensive players, many starting centers and power forwards in the game right now are lacking offensive game. A good supporting fact to this argument is Dwight Howard who is considered to be the best center in the game right now but doesn't have an offensive game that doesn't rely on his otherworldly athleticism. However, this all may change with the rise of the next generation of big men that are slowly shining their brilliance. Here are some of the power forwards and centers that are showing lots of promise. DeMarcus Cousins You can talk all you want about Cousins maturity issue, but you can't deny the fact that Sacramento's new face can really play. He's got a wide array of moves that makes him effective in different spots of the floor. So far this season, Cousins has averaged 22.8 points,10 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. Anthony Davis Although it is still early in the season, NBA watches can't help themselves but feel in awe at the sight of Davis playing. The athletic big second year is just tough to cover as takes advantage of his speed and explosiveness. He's no slouch on defense either, being a good rim protector. This is backed by his current stats of 21.8 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game. Derrick Favors Although his stats isn't something remarkable, Favors has been quite a solid player and still has more room for growth. His increased playing time this season has resulted to better numbers but also an overall improvement in the way he plays. He looks more confident and is hitting shots at higher percentage. He is currently averaging 13.7 points, 11 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. Jonas Valanciunas Jonas has the physical qualities, the work ethic and the skills to be great. The only problem is that he is playing limited minutes and not featured enough in the plays of the Raptors who prefer chugging jumpers than trying to get their skilled big man going. This results a mediocre stat line of 8.5 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game. There are some other young big men that are showing lots of potential right now that I'm going to include on the second part of the list.
