For over a year, we have all been looking forward to a trip to Shimla. And thrilled we have been to say the least! The more I think about it, the more I wish we could stay longer in this picturesque hill station. It has never been in doubt that Shimla would take us back to the times past with its old-world charm and colonial buildings. A picturesque journey from Kalka to Shimla concluded on a pleasant note. The bigger road gave way to little lanes that zigzagged about the town. Away from the hustle and bustle of the town stood The Oberoi Cecil at the quiet end of The Mall. The staff at the hotel lived up to The Oberoi’s legendary hospitality. We were treated to the warmest of welcomes and the brightest of smiles. We were all greeted by our names, and we felt valued as guests as the wonderful staff remembered our personal likes and dislikes. The rooms we were assigned to gave a spectacular view of the hills, but what took our breath away was the view when you look out over the parking lot. It was the spectacular sight of the snowcapped peaks kissing the blue skies. The architecture, decor, and the furnishing are things that need special mention. The rooms were huge and the grand piano in the lobby added to The Oberoi, Cecil’s enticing quality. The adjoining room for the kids were even bigger and there was no dearth of modern amenities in this grand old hotel. There is a distinct European charm that sets it apart from the rest of the luxury hotels in Shimla, and this is one reason you would want to experience Shimla with The Oberoi Cecil. Sights and Sounds of Shimla Ten minutes is all it takes to The Mall where you could shop for anything from knickknacks to lovely shawls and scintillating jewelry. We took a walk down the narrow lanes and browsed random shops at leisure. The vibrancy of the town was something that we took back from the trip. The Walks The hotel staff gave us directions on the trails to explore the nearby cedar forest. Though we were pretty much on our own, we could make it to the hotel back without losing our way all thanks to them! So if you are planning to visit Shimla, step out of the hotel and take a walk in the woods. It is the surest way to fill your lungs with fresh air. The calming effect of the greenery on your body and soul will recharge you until your next holiday! Activities at The Oberoi Cecil A separate space for kids recreation was a nice touch. Our youngest kid enjoyed all the activities there and he was well taken care of. The swimming pool was top notch and the spa is inviting enough for some tender love and care. The Oberoi combines the past and the present with its evocative heritage style building and modern facilities and services. It is this feature that gives you a different holiday experience among Shimla resorts. The entire checkin and checkout process was hassle free and we were left asking for more as our vehicle took us back to Kalka on our way to Delhi.
