There are few things that make a mother hurt inside more then when their babies are sick or in pain. Watching them get their foot pricked for blood by the doctor and seeing that happy face turn into pain while looking at mom and wondering why she didn’t do anything to stop it. When babies get sick, when they are uncomfortable, when they get constipated, have diaper rash, or are just tired and cranky and won’t go to sleep, mom’s, and sometimes dads, hurt inside, they feel bad, are stressed and powerless to sooth their child. It is so hard because the child can’t tell you where it hurts, they just cry and you try everything in hopes that you will be able to quiet them or calm to a peaceful state. There is however a natural medicine for babies available which is easy, natural and most of all, it works. Although there are many others, here are ten things that can be treated with natural means to alleviate the child’s suffering as well as the mom’s stress and worry. Colds: Diffuse 2 drops of melaleuca (tea tree), Lemon, or lavender at bedtime and again during the day. Mix 1 drop of melaleuca, lemon, or lavender with 1 tablespoon carrier oil; use a small amount to massage upper chest and back at each diaper change. Colic: Mix 1 drop of lavender with 1 Tablespoon carrier oil. Rub a small amount on the chest and back of the child. Diarrhea: Mix 1 drop of Roman chamomile with 1 Tablespoon carrier oil. Gently massage 2-3 drops onto abdomen, stroking clockwise to follow the direction of the colon. Crying: Place a drop of lavender or roman chamomile on a tissue (or rub on parent’s hands), and let the infant smell the oil. Do not let the baby touch the oil. Diaper Rash: Combine 1 drop German chamomile and 1 drop lavender with 1 drop whole milk. Add the mixture to bath water, and swish it around with your hand before bathing the baby. Keep the oils away from the child’s eyes and face. Fever: Mix 1 drop lavender with 1 tablespoon carrier oil. Apply a small amount on the bottoms of the feet, the back of the neck and behind the ears. Cover the feet with socks so the baby won’t get essential oils in his or her mouth. Teething: Mix 1 drop of Roman chamomile or lavender with 1 tablespoon carrier oil. Use a small amount to gently massage the outside of the face along the jawline. Sleeplessness: Dilute 1-2 drops of Lavender with a carrier oil and apply to the bottom of the baby’s feet. Insect Bites: Dilute 1-2 drops each of lavender and melaleuca with a carrier oil and apply to the bite area. It will take away the itch and the bite will heal at least twice as fast as normal. Ear Infection: Use Lavender, Frankincense and Basil. Apply 2 drops each to a cotton ball. Rub around the ear and down the neck, then place the cotton ball in the ear. Safety Precautions: Because a baby’s skin is so delicate, it is a good idea to dilute all essential oils before applying them on the child’s skin. It is always a good ideal to dilute one drop of essential oil with a tablespoon of a carrier oil such as sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, sunflower oil, extra-virgin olive oil fractionated coconut oil. Always avoid diffusing very strong oils, such as cinnamon, peppermint, or oregano in the baby's room. It s’ also a wise to cover the baby’s feet with socks after applying essential oils and to avoid applying oils on the baby’s hands so that the oils don’t end up in the baby’s mouth. All of these suggestions make it sound like the oils are dangerous for the baby. None of them are, but because they are so potent, you will have a crying baby if they get some in their mouth or eyes. Therapeutic grade oils however will simply absorb into the skin even if this happens. No harm will take place. It will just sting and they will not like it. In fact if your baby gets into your oils and drinks them, they will most likely cry for a while because of the strong taste, but you will not have to worry because the oils will simply be absorbed into the skin and blood stream and will mesh with the natural biology as they were created to do. No harm will come to the child at all. You will never have to call the poison emergency number for therapeutic grade essential oils. It truly is natural medicine for babies. Another important point for the oils to be effective: it requires Therapeutic grade essential oils. I recommend Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade.
