BLACKSBURG, VA -- 6:20 p.m. A second chance for Cody Journell as he left the Montgomery CountyCourthouse Monday afternoon, with what he called "The first bit ofgood news in months." He will not spend another day in jail. "Whatever I have to do to make things better, I'm ready to do it,"said Journell. The suspended Virginia Tech place kicker was sentenced to a year injail, but the sentence was suspended and he was credited for timeserved before he posted bail. As part of a plea agreement, he will also have to serve 100 hoursof community service and spend a year on probation. "Cody made a very bad decision. He was with the wrong people at thewrong place at the wrong time," said James Turk, Journell'sattorney. But whether he will be allowed a second chance to play football isstill a mystery. Jim Weaver, Virginia Tech Athletic Director, told us he plans tomeet with Journell in the near future after some reflection, todiscuss the 20-year old's future with the team. "Do you think you would be allowed to play back on the Hokiefootball team...Is that something you are interested in," said weasked. "Definitely. Hopefully I'll be in contact with the coaches withinthe next week or so. We will see what happens from there. So I'mhopeful but I'm happy everything is starting to look like it'sworking out," replied Journell. He is hoping to be a Hokie again on the field, while working torepair his off-field reputation. 2:59 p.m. Virginia Tech kicker Cody Journell received a suspended jailsentence and community service, in exchange for a plea deal in hisbreak-in case this afternoon (Monday). Journell pled not guilty with stipulation, and the judge found himguilty. The judge sentenced Journell to 365 days in jail, then suspendedall but the ten day he has already served. The judge added 12months probation, and 100 hours of community service for Journell.
