In the culture and heritage tourism field, which, according to the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), is increasing by an unprecedented 15 percent per year, those who have completed Tourism Management courses play important roles. These professionals work at places that include: museums, art galleries, historic theme parks, and heritage sites and arts festivals. Here is how Centennial College’s Tourism Management Program — officially known as Tourism Management – Cultural and Heritage Tourism — gets students fully prepared for the field in two years. • UNWTO TedQual accredits the Tourism Management program. • Applicants interested in Centennial College’s Tourism Management courses are required to have completed at minimum an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent or be 19 years of age or older. Also required is a compulsory English 12C or U skills assessment, or equivalent. • Centennial College Tourism Management courses integrate the challenges facing culture and heritage sector managers with the operative requisites commanded by the tourism industry. • Among the specific Tourism courses offers are: Introduction to Cultural & Heritage Tourism, Ontario Cultural & Heritage Tourism Product, Managing Cultural and Heritage Facilities, Cross-Cultural Behaviour in Tourism, Tour Planning and Management, Festival Management and more. • Tourism Management courses offer a balance between theory and practical application by seeing students partake in lectures, case studies and projects. • There is a distinct focus on world cultures and world heritage as they relate to tourism. • The Tourism Management program ensures a real-life experience for students by way of a field placement, which allows them to apply classroom theory to the real-life situations.
